Hurricane Mount Rushmores by Position

I couldn't agree more with the bold print. I loved Kenny, but Walsh was my favorite Cane qb. I always felt we had a chance with him under center. That '88 year was something special. We opened the season by pasting the then #1 ranked Seminoles 31-0. One of my favorite games was our second game that season. We were up at Ann Arbor. We stank it up in the first half, but we played lights out behind Walsh when it mattered most. He threw for maybe 180 yards in the 4th quarter, and we got the win against a really good Michigan team. That season we beat multiple teams that would end up conference champion. We rolled LSU 44-3 on the road. But for the goal line causing a fumble we would have three peated. Steve was a special special qb. That staff was loaded also. The graduate assistants were Tommy Tuberville and Ed Orgeron.

Qb- Dorsey was great but I thought Walsh was better. Most underrated qb in canes history. He was my pick.

When Michigan went ahead 30-14, I bet a kid from Michigan $20 that Miami would win. My favorite game ever.

I was watching with one of my best friends from college, and I remember him telling me, as we approached the half, "It looks like your boys are going to take an L today." And it did look that way, but we woke up and played Cane football down the stretch. During the '87 season we had really battled FSU and came away with a close victory. So, they came into that season as the preseason #1. We embarrassed them, and that was their only loss that season. Even though we got a bad call up at South Bend, that was right up there as one of my favorite seasons all time.

THAT NOTRE DAME GAME MADE ME CRY AS AN 11 YEAR OLD:mad::mad:

Ottis Anderson deserves a default spot on the RB list. He was the first great one, 8th overall NFL pick, and all time leading rusher until Duke broke the record. All on horrible teams, some of the worst in history. Anderson, Edge, Duke, and...probably a tie between Portis-MacGhee-Gore. And then there’s Highsmith-Bratton.

Andre Johnson is the 4th WR. Santana is in the KR/PR group. Call it a compromise.

Bernie Kosar is the 4th QB. He was the starter for the first NC, after all.

Vinny was a great QB but sorry throwing away the Ship means he doesn't belong, Kosar should have his place.

A case could be made no doubt. Doing the twitter polls for the 4th spot was just a way for everyone to be involved but the recency bias was evident (and expected).

It's obvious why the majority of the players on this list are from the early 80's on. Although we had a few great players in the 60's and 70's, the great teams from the early 80's on produced an array of great players.

Safety:
1a. Blades
1b. Taylor
1c. Reed

It’s easy to conflate NFL-Reed with Miami-Reed, or What could have been-Taylor with What did I just see-Taylor, but Bennie Blades is the best Miami safety ever AND, had he not been drafted by the Lions he might’ve been worth of the NFL HOF. But, we’re talking about college and Bennie was the best. Yes, the other two should probably be in the College Football Hall of Fame, but Bennie is and he’s also the one with the Jim Thorpe* award.

*Jim Thorpe award is voted on by Oklahoma Sports HOF.
There shoulda been a rape investigation for the way ST was ****ed outta the Thorpe Award. Carlos ******' Rogers?!?!?!
