How Much Has Changed? Golden and Shannon By The Numbers

If Dorito goes then Paul Williams and Jethro need to go with him. We need to rid ourselves of everything surrounding the current scheme.

I think you clean house on that side of the ball completely. bring in a real DC. let him have full control.

LOL at the retards negging me on here. IF you cant see that the defensive coaching is beyond pathetic at this point you are a raging homer with no chance at any sort of objectivity

You all remember the excuses Shannon used to make after our defense would get torched by mediocre teams? It was the eerily familiar "guys not doing their jobs", "guys not executing and doing what their taught", "missed assignments", etc line of defense. I've been hearing the same **** the past few years. I remember I used to think why our defense has gaping holes in it just because one guy made a bad read on defense. It seemed like it required all 11 guys to do exactly what they are told and if one guy did not, the whole defense would go to the crapper. What kind of scheme is that?

I recall Shannon's scheme being torched on the message boards for a variety of reasons. If there are several years of parrotting the same excuse, logic would tell you that either you are a sh1tty coach or your scheme is sh1tty.

yeah and those were for the most part at worst top 30ish type defenses.

marinate on that

Amazing how all of a suddenly the circumstances both entered into are forgotten.

I'm the last one to defend these guys right now, but I'm just saying.

Exactly, Randy started out strong with the 08 recruiting class, and then face planted. Regardless of how overrated everyone thought that 08 class was, it was still solid and in 2010 we were one of the most talented teams in the nation(draft confirmed it that year) and we face planted. Golden took over and he had to deal with the fall out of firing a local figure in Dade, and then had the investigation to deal with. Now is he the right man for the job? Still remains to be seen but Saturday left me worried no doubt, but this comparison is it not only pointless but unfair to say the least.

Three different staffs, same problems:

-Kids look like they can't last a full season
-kids don't develop mentally
-kids don't show up in big games
-staff turns over too much

This goes beyond who is HC. We don't spend enough on assistants or support staff. The game day atmosphere is a tragedy. Our coaches spend more time making sure kids go to class than actually coaching them.

During the GT game thread I was blasted for saying "how is this any different from Radio Randy's tenure?"......well, it isn't.

2011 roster had NFL guys at every position

PLEASE not this nonsense. Most of those guys are out of football already, we're undrafted, or are on practice squads.

Doesn't excuse the worst defense I've ever watched, but those players ALL BLOW.

Watching them both on game day you can't tell the difference.

Al has previous HC exp, and yet his team looks lost after the 1st series on both sides of the ball, and just like Randy. Seems as if his players are finding it hard to trust what he, and his staff are doing during games.

Shannon's inheritance was worse than Golden's as I recall it. The players he suited up year one were quite bad. Golden had one main disadvantage though which is that a whole host of talent left AFTER his first year. His talent really bottomed out his second year. His year 2 was like Shannon 3 and so forth.

Inheritance is not a word you want to use to describe Shannon's situation.
More like he reaped what he partially sowed.

SHannon also had familiarity with the players which is a big benefit.

Clempson 2012 $4.2mm corch payroll

Dabo Swinney HC, $2,050,024
Chad Morris OC, $1,300,000
Brent Venables DC, $800,000

Player roster payroll (N/A)

To be fair, Al inherited a worse team with more holes and then had to recruit and coach under this ncaa mess. Nonetheless, very interesting stats.

Golden inherited Lamar Miller & Sean Spence. That's enough to win coastal alone. (ACC is god awful)

To be fair, Golden also inherited an interesting culture on the team. Guys didn't know basics of nutritioning for ***** sake. No accountability, dog houses, entitlement, etc. I don't remember the culture Shannon inherited, but must have been on par.

Golden might have inherited some talent, but Lamar miller s saving himself for the draft and Sean spence was the only player worth a **** on the defense. We literally had no secondary, Mike Williams was a starting CB...
