The problem is that as soon as a kid gets that fifth star, the bagman cometh. We might snag one every once in a while who grew up with mad love for the Canes, but generally a four star who was leaning Canes starts leaning towards the bank once star #5 gets added.
I think you can win a championship with a team made up of all 4 stars even if no 5 stars because you also have to factor in that players can underperform or overperform (a five star can't really "overperform" his star rating, he can either meet expectations or underperform since he is expected to be absolutely elite from day 1). Talent evaluation still plays a big part, so coaches with an excellent eye for talent can load up on four stars who they expect to overperform and are mentally tough. Contrast that with FSU's mentally soft team last year that had more five stars than Clemson, that folded at the first sign of adversity.
So if Miami misses out on a 5 star OT but lands two 4 star OTs, it's still a win for me because you've doubled your chances of finding a kid who will overperform.
