Ehh I think you guys are thinking of the phrase "brick by brick" in general, which dates back to a Roman emperor.. but I haven't heard this specific quote anywhere except from Mr. Smith and those quoting him.
 
If Will Smith is your source for an amalgam of cliche motivational tropes, then I guess you do call yourself "The G".

Harsin at Arkansas State uses the "Brick by Brick" saying too. It's all over the football ops office and they got wristbands made for the team and staff.
