Shockey? Better blocker? Faster? Better hands? I read they were very similar and from the highlights he looks phenomenal but I thought I would get the boards opinion or anyone who has seen him play in person.

This recruit is much better than Shockey on all levels, notwithstanding that Shockey was arguably the best tight end to come through UM amidst a who's who of stud nfl tight ends.

Lets put it this way, if Sandland is on the roster come fall, I just dont see any way any tight end on our roster beats him out.

The Shockey comparisons need to stop. Chase Ford was supposed to be the next Shockey IIRC.

pcitycane not flaming at all, but have you seen his stats? Playing at the community college level this is what he did (see below). Why would we believe he'll dominate at the BCS level? I want him and think he has potential, but I think it's a stretch to think that he'll be better than Walford whose numbers were better in every statistical category. And for the record I hope he is because that would mean we as a team would be that much better, but I'd say let's wait and see.

completely unfair for any of these players to be compared to greats from the past...stop doing it

It's okay to compare when talking on these boards. It's the nature of being a fan. We did it with each group that came through in the 80s, 90s, 00's, and will likely do it now and forever.

It's reasonable in that you expect future players to live up to the greatness of the guys before them. If they exceed them, then they get to be the next great that future players are compared to.

This kid has more size and potential than any of our TEs not named Jimmy Graham, IMO. Gronkowski potential. Not making a long-term prediction but he'd make an immediate impact.

I don't think Shockey's JUCO stats were eye-popping either.

I think Sandland compares very favorably to Shockey at the same stage. I don't know if Sandland is as tough because not many guys were, and that could be something to separate the two.

That British Detective Clive can play too. I ain't sleeping on him. He catches the football beautifully and is a monster target. This dude Beau is a more fluid athlete out there, but Clive ain't no cumbum.

The Shockey comparisons need to stop. Chase Ford was supposed to be the next Shockey IIRC.

That was because Shannon claimed he was and everyone bought it. The same Shannon who hand picked guys like Glenn Cook, Romeo Davis and Eric Houston. Not to mention these boards always hype every kid who signs to Miami. Darius "The Plug" Smith ring any bells? LOL

Ford and Sandland's film aren't even close.

The previous staffs are gone. **** isn't the same. Sandland's film is laughably better than Ford's, as is the coaching he will receive should he come to Miami.

Ford was in way over his head and he took a pounding during his short tenure here. I respect that kid.

Bennubird, when I look at sandland I see the total package. Kid can block, run routes, good hands, decent speed, good size. I wouldn't let those stats fool you man.

Again pcitycane was not a flame. I'm hoping you're right. He definitely has great size and looks athletic.
