How Do We Fix This?

1. Changes to the defensive staff - I am probably an advocate for getting rid of everyone (except maybe Jason Taylor, but only because of his recruiting chops). Florida State ended up firing both coordinators less than 12 months after their undefeated regular season and the complacency killed them. Too many talented options to run it back. Do NOT ******* bring me a bunch of unproven G5 guys either. Let's outbid Florida State for Brad White or someone who has proven success at the highest levels.

2. Address DB - This is way easier said than done because the portal is fickle, but this unit is woefully undermanned. Start by throwing a bag at Pickett or Hanks (also easier said than done). But then nail the portal. Spend for hopefully two premier veterans and then budget to bring in at least two more contributors. The options from the last few seasons do NOT make me confident, but they need to evaluate perfectly and then throw bodies at the problem.

3. Address QB - With no guarantee that this defense is going to be better next season, you absolutely cannot bank on Poffenbarger or Williams being the solution. The only reason I put this below DB is because I think they can make an ACC Championship game with an improved defense and someone like John Mateer (my first choice) running the offense. There will be solid to above-average options and hopefully the OL and RB situation is enticing.

4. Address LB - There is a lot more depth in the portal at this position. Bissainthe probably counts as slightly above-average, Pruitt and Washington are still worth holding onto and Popo is trustworthy (I guess). I get that it is hard to add physicality AND sideline to sideline speed, but NFL linebackers can do both.

5. Address WR - This is the easiest position to find talent in the portal in my opinion but we can't level down at quarterback and then lean on a bunch of totally unproven youngsters at WR, I don't care how talented they are. Miami can be a little bit pickier here, but I would be fine with two veteran guys, one who admirably fill X's shoes in the slot would be preferable.

6. Address Coaching Blind Spots - Okay fine, this will never happen, but we commit so many penalties and make so many mistakes with timeouts and are generally just terrible with clock management (they took so much time going down the field to kick the field goal that Syracuse only needed two first downs to win). I get that this isn't exactly new information when it comes to Mario, but how many times do we have to watch it happen before even he adapts? I am not as big a Mario hater as others in these forums, but if you want the No. 1 reason why I still don't trust that he can ever win a national championship, it is because he does none of the smart little things and I think that is reflected in the consistent penalty yardage issues.

So scrap everything and start over. Thanks.

Grab the linebackers and secondary and

Lol

Getting another Cam Ward in the portal, and the Cam Ward equivalent at CB, ILB, DT, WR and S + paying Martinez enough to come back.

Guys, this doesn’t get fixed under this staff. We will never get an opportunity like this again under these guys. We had our shot, and we failed with the best QB that Mario Cristobal and/or the University of Miami will ever have. Our ceiling under this staff is an ACC chip appearance, and we couldn’t even reach that so unless we unrealistically attain a ridiculous amount of talent that surpasses what we just wasted, get ready for 7-5/8-4 next season.

I’ll still be here, cause I’m a sick ****, but there’s absolutely nothing any of you mfs can say to convince me this is our guy and we are “on track” or any of that ridiculous homer bull**** so many of you love to spew.

To me The **** in this season is that after the first couple games every person on this board with any sense knew we would have to score 40+a game to have a chance to win a game but yet nothing was changed personnel, coach or scheme wise.

If we all knew the defense sucked then why didn’t the coaches realize it and if they didn’t why and if they did why were t changes made.._

Def Coordinator & influx of quality Db/lb.

There's really five things that Mario's gotta do.
  1. Spend big $$$ on a B1G/SEC DC who is proven and can recruit.
  2. Give your new DC all the space and maneuverability he needs to build out his staff.
  3. Continue recruiting at a high level and close strong on ESD. Need a Top 5 class.
  4. Portal a good QB (won't be Cam, but there's talent out there), portal 3 DBs, 2 DTs, a solid LB. Portal in 1-2 solid WRs. We have tons of talent at that position but there needs to be competition.
  5. Win 9 regular season games next year. Miami's only won back to back 9 minimum win seasons once (2016-2017) in 20 years. We need to sustain some floor.
Worst case - hopefully - Mario does enough to load up on talent and wins 9-10 a year with the occasional ACC Championship appearance and he steps aside a few years down the road. The guy is like Richt, in the sense that if he knows he can't get us where he wants he will step aside.

How about merging all these posts single 'What Does Miami Do Now?' thread?

Or is there more click money in having more threads?

For heaven's sake, understand that the game has 3 phases... Offense, Defense and Special Teams. Have to have any 2 of those working well to be successful.... we had a horrible D with a nonexistent ST.
ST sometimes can turn games around... We stood no chance once Guidry started ******** the pooch .

Finally, a reasonable voice in the wilderness. All of this needs to happen, and I might add, the development of that young talent. What good does it do to bring in top5 classes if there no venue for on field/game experience.Perfect example was Lofton on that route to the end zone. He never looked back for the ball. He’s a kid with a great upside, but failed receiver 101,on that play, look for the ball. Lack of playing time and muscle memory. I realize we all became intoxicated with sugar plum thoughts of Cam, Heisman, ACC, and playoffs. But, there is still the reality of THE TEAM, development, building for the future, coaching. IMO, the Win Now fever gripped this team and everything else went astray. And now in our Hanover the Portal is the answer to stay relevant. Well, yes and no. We have young talent and are acquiring more.. keeping that talent means developing it and playing them. All we need to do is look at SMU, for the development and playing time of guys we recruited. Tearing S**t apart is not always the answer. I value your common sense assessment.🙌🏽
