Houston G Cam'ron Johnson enters the portal

I'm sure with the right NIL deal he would consider it. Regardless you bring him in as competition only breeds excellence.
I don't think that was his point. He was saying that if he isnt good enough to be a tackle at Houston, what makes you think he's good enough to be a tackle at Miami?

I'm not sure you can just automatically assume it's performance based he wasn't at tackle. Is there statements indicating he was tried their previously and failed? In addition, we don't know what else Houston had on their roster at OL to put a starting five on the field. They could have had more bigger bodies for Tackle and needed an experienced guard. What I posted wasn't that far fetched or off base. The guy isn't a short some *****.

Kid isnt coming without a guaranteed starting spot. Why is that so hard for everyone to understand? We determine a spot and NIL, it's a possibility. No clear spot, he ain't coming so not worth getting hopes up

It is weird with this many pages and all these depth charts projecting him when not 1 insider has said keep your eye on this one. You would think exp with Dawson here we would know if we back channeled this one by now.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Obviously they give these kids sales pitches on them having a good shot to start, but how do you explain all the other players we've gotten transfers for that are not starting. As mentioned we have a hole at RT. Kid is big enough to be pushed to that position and all the lineman our cross trained by Mirabal. I'm not getting my hopes up, but they have something they can sell.

Oh I’m sure he’d consider coming here for the right NIL deal. But the point is he seems to be more locked into guard given that he never made the switch to tackle over many years and at lower level of ball. And he is too good (on paper) to be coming here for a backup guard spot. I’d take him if we can get him, but we just don’t feel like a good match with our priorities/ open spots.

We couldn’t block Middle Tennessee St last year and people are meh on this kid lmaooo.

Never change, CIS.

Did a little research Houston’s RT was a sohpmore transfer from MTSU and was pretty good. So they brought in a guy over moving this dude to RT. This is not a guy that I’d be projecting to play RT for us when he got passed over at Houston. Mix that with him being a grad transfer (high probability he won’t transfer to be a bench player) with guard not having an open slot. This dude is mostly likely not a realistic option for us

To me this is insurance policy for Zion not being game ready by start of season. That’s how I would swing it. I would not want to depend on the 2 freshman in any way. They need to be a luxury. Then Cooper gets to season 1 more year if you can hold onto him from hitting the portal. Win now mentally taking this kid. I’m for it.

So what y'all telling me is... A guy who would be our 2nd best lineman...at this very moment... Would not have a guaranteed spot on this OL??
I don’t view that our guard spot opposite Cohen as open, we could bring in competition for it sure, but a grad transfer of his quality would imo want a wide open spot to take.

When Cohen came here, we had a open spot. I’d imagine Johnson would look elsewhere to a school where he can easily slot into the starting lineup.

So who are the guys at his spot now?

Rivers and Cooper, and maybe Francis if he doesn’t get tackle. The spot is anything but open, and I don’t see a Grad transfer wanting to jump into the battle at this point. If I where in his position, it’s not a very attractive proposition. There are other places where he can easily slot into a starter role to improve draft status/ NIL.

Edit: if rivers and Francis end up starting at tackles that changes things

Give me this guy right now over everyone you just listed. Francis is obviously the prize but if we're entering week 1 with a true freshman str8 out of HS as a starter on the OL, that would definitely show how much depth we're lacking.

Dude is a take all day. Get him in and let him compete for a starting role. The line was ******* horrific last year and has been for most of the past 20 years. Continue to strengthen the starting front as well as the depth pieces.
