Mack and Coker are the same type of coach. The only difference is UT is the juggernaut in that state. Kids much prefer to go to UT over A&M, TT Baylor, Oklahoma or LSU. Mack had 5-stars pounding down the door to get in. But his poor player development and lazy approach to recruiting let those other schools slip through the back door. That's why I expect Charlie to clean up. He will make sure the best kids stay home, and will even steal the best out of Louisiana and Oklahoma to boot. Texas finally got a recruiter that knows how to evaluate talent and will lock it down.
 
Charlie is gonna get it fixed at tex.My one encounter with him he was a real racist! Maybe having a bad airport bar day.

I don't know about that. Did Texas have any first rounders the past two years? Mack left the cupboards empty. Six year rebuild minimum.

UT will not give him 6 years. He'll need to win sooner than that, maybe not NCs but the big games out there. We have a lazy attitude about football; them Texans take it serious.
 
I like Charlie Strong, except when he was at Louisville and when he was DC w/ gaytors..but I think he will do good things at Texas. He is going to have a similar time getting players who dont LOVE football enough like Al Golden had to when he got here. I give him at least 2 years and Texas will be running that state again.

Strong will kill there. He walked into a country club. Gonna take a little while to instill his toughness there. UT actually had no one drafted for the first time in like 80 years.

UT and A&M have been sleeping giants for.... forever. You can see it when peripheral programs like Texas Tech, TCU, and Baylor are able to field legitimate top 25 squads with their leftovers and Oklahoma's roster of many Texas kids is capable of whipping Alabama. People say that the talent in the state is overrated.... no. They're just where Miami was with Coker/Shannon/Golden, where FSU was in Bowden's later years, where Florida was when Zook was there, etc.

You know your not far off from this.... Have a few close friends who live in Texas and are UT alums and they will tell you a lot of the $$$$$ Boosters did not want him as coach. Remember the one big time booster Red McCombs who spouted off at the mouth when he got hired. He was also the former owner of the Spurs, Nuggets and Vikings at one point


"I think the whole thing is a bit sideways," McCombs said of the selection process during an interview with ESPN 1250 San Antonio. "I don't have any doubt that Charlie is a fine coach. I think he would make a great position coach, maybe a coordinator.

"But I don't believe [he belongs at] what should be one of the three most powerful university programs in the world right now at UT-Austin. I don't think it adds up."

I dunno about that. Texas is Texas so there gunna get there choice of players for the most part but A&M is on the up. Being the only school in that state who can hit those kids with the SEC pitch is a big deal. They cant match the history of UT but there gunna be able to match them player for player for a good long while.
