Tears Hokie Tears

We got robbed on the Bell holding call which wiped a legit TD off the board and resulted in the first INT which shouldn't have ever happened.

Seethe.

The refs were bad on both ends; they wiped out a TD for VT on a botched holding call, they missed an egregious block in the back against VT that sprung a run.

In the end, this was the absolutely right call. One angle looked like he came down w/ the ball, & it was ripped out after the play was over, but it was clear that bro never had possession of the ball, & that’s on him. Get stronger hands, & learn to secure. Any VT fan arguing against this call should blame their dumb *** coach for that dumb trick play to take 3 off the board, squib kicking to give us 3 before HT, & not running the ball on their 2nd to last possession, going 3 & out.

Blame ur players for not sacking Cam Ward. We won that game, as ugly as it may have been, & VT can blame themselves for losing it. Blaming the refs is low hanging fruit, ESPECIALLY when this **** legit didn’t catch the ball & had two opportunities to do so.

None of these people will actually try to make the argument the ball was caught. This goes back to the refs, who had no idea what had happened, having the audacity call a td while the Miami player was getting up and running away with the football. If the ball was called incomplete or an int on the field, no one would be saying a word, because not even the most delusional vt fans think there was an actual catch there.

That was my thought , they had 0 clue If he caught the ball than call td

Calling that a TD on the field was more egregious than taking 10 minutes to overturn it. And it’s not close.

I am still confused how the ruling on the field was a completion for a touchdown. The fact that it took ten seconds after the play was over for them to make any ruling at all indicated to me even the refs weren't sure.

And if you weren't sure, how could you know it was a catch?

The ruling on the field should've been an incomplete pass to begin with.

I was listening to the game, and DBJ made a Terry Porter reference to that play. I was thinking, "Bruh, why would you even *mention* that? We don't talk about that crap, especially not now."

But..they got the call right in the end after getting it wrong first.

PS- there has to be something that can be done with fake injury TO's. VT was going all FIU on us.

This right here!!
Everyone is ****ed because there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn the call.
But nobody wants to argue or bro g up the fact that there was no evidence at all to determine that it was a catch to begin with.

Why do people act like the call on the field is some sort of gospel that can’t be overturned when refs get sht wrong all the **** time.

There was way more evidence (imo) that the dude never caught the ball to begin with.
This “enough evidence to overturn” is straight bs.
There was way more evidence to overturn the Chaney call last year and they didn’t.
There was enough evidence to say that dude never caught the **** ball.

Yeah, and nobody remembers the bull**** PI calls that Duke got which led up to that moment.
Yeah, they all yukked it up and celebrated when our Canes were robbed in some of the biggest thefts that CFB has ever seen.

Cleveland Gary’s fumble that wasn’t a fumble at all, the Holes playing for the 2000 National Championship after we had just defeated them a few weeks before that, Raghib Ismael’s punt return TD against us where there were 2 blatant blocks in the back and no call was made, and these are just off the top of my head.

Then there was the game against the Hiskers in Nebraska (2011 or 2012) where our guys were being tackled by the back on multiple occasions in front of the ref, and he would just stare at it and swallow his whistle.

Also, who could ever forget the Wisconsin DB pulling Lawrence Cager’s jersey with both hands while the referee clearly looked at it and swallowed his whistle. We were up 14-0 in that ball game, and that changed the whole game.

…and of course, screwed us against Taint after the game was well over by a phantom flag from an Ohio ref (Terry Porter) that threw a flag well after the game was over, and his excuse was that he had to replay the play in his mind, even though he was on the other end of the end zone and the ref that was 3 feet away said it was a clean play. The WORST CALL IN ALL OF SPORTS HISTORY!

The 2002 game is still a sore spot in the family household. About five years back, my stepfather and I were watching the U Part 2, and when it got to Terry Porter, my stepfather, took the remote, turned off the TV and left the living room.

"Son, I am going to bed. I already watched that horse**** once, and I ain't watchin' it again. Good night."

Yeah, we dont talk about it lol.

It’s the same for my dad and me.

We were already celebrating and everyone in our house s hugging each other, and then that corrupt SOB Porter throws that flag way after the game is over. I couldn’t sleep for the next 3 nights, that how ****ed off I was.

Our dudes were crying on that field because they knew that they were robbed and couldn’t do anything about it. It gutted our entire team, and there’s been a cloud over our program since then. It’s like they ripped our heart out of our chests on that night.

The only way to exorcise those demons will be to win the natty. Hopefully somehow, someway this season, as highly unlikely as that may seem. Back in 83’, our 1st National Champion Canes proved that David can slay Goliath by beating what was at that time considered the greatest CFB team of all-time.

These Canes can do it too if they fight for every inch and believe in themselves and their teammates and coaches.
