Highest graded true freshman per PFF

**** if we only had not slow played Lucas. If we had him and OJ we would be set at CB for the next 2 years at least. We tried to get him back but the damage was already done. I dont think he would consider transferring either.
At least all of the South Florida players didn’t go to UF or FSU. He will be in the NFL in 2 years if he continues on this trajectory, so I don’t think he will come here as a transfer, when he is on track to make it to the NFL. We have to develop who we have on the roster and try not to miss on our priorities and evals this year and next

Have been told they can't win or lose games.

I dont see Perich going anywhere - but I’ve been wrong before. He’s already a gawd up here and is the team leader as a freshman already. He’s also from a very small town up here. I think he has 4 interceptions already and also serves as the KR.

Also to the Maroney comment - I would argue Antoine Winfield Jr was just as good / important. Don’t get me wrong Maroney was good.

This video of Perich is pretty funny:

:pgdead:

That was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣

Here is the issue to me, national recruiting vs grinding out south Florida guys. We spent years with SoFl three stars and it got us no where. Mario comes in and starts to recruit more nationally. As a result he will miss on some SoFl kids. Going to have to just live with it.

Also, is this year an outlier? I am not sure this list in tears past as so many SoFl kids.

4 of them low end 3 stars, until Lucas earned his 4th star very late, and a can't miss 5 star.

Brown - 546 ranked player overall
Shavers - 614 ranked player overall
Lucas - 331 ranked player overall
OJ - 735 ranked player overall

Bigger concern over the south florida decline is that our staff didn't recruit Isaac Brown, had Shavers committed and dropped him, let Wisconsin come down here and get Lucas committed and while they did want him and recruit him - they were late. Got OJ luckily so credit to them for that.

Can't go 1/4 when you could have easily been 4/4. At worst, when these players are in your back yard you have to hit .500. I'd love to have Brown or Lucas the next 2 years. Shavers, admittedly it seems I was wrong on him as well. Can never have enough instinctual linebackers and we let him walk.
I agree on Lucas as our DB recruiting has been *** for years.

I am not sure on Shavers getting the same amount of reps here but I dk.

I’m convinced if you traded Lyle for Brown their production and snaps would be within the same range and we’d be *****ing about not getting Lyle.

I'll die on this hill. Limited number of backs you can take. I'll take Lyle everytime

Time will tell but I tend to agree. Louisville does not have a Martinez and Fletcher on the roster. They are using Brown out of necessity and thankfully (for them at least) he was a massive hit on their evaluation.

Also I’m not sure he would’ve ever been here because from what I’ve read Louisville paid him VERY handsomely to go there and we weren’t willing to match.

Thought for sure we were getting Lucas last year when we had final OV, hopefully with more success on field we will have more luck when we slow play players.

I thought we had him too. But I will never blame a kid for "leaving the dance with the one you came with". Wisconsin offered early, showed him love throughout and held on to him. Is what it is. We need to do better. Macho told us Lucas was going to be a stud just like OJ.

On PFF’s poor grades for the defensive backs: "They have no idea what we're doing on defense. None. They might have given Jaden a minus on that long run, when he was covering a guy, man to man. We should have blitzed off the outside. They don't know what the scheme is. They're just trying to guess if they played it right."

I saw/heard that. How do you feel about it? I certainly don't agree with PFF many times. But I also feel like Guidry laughs off criticism too much.
