here lies our issue....a HUGE issue

Any D-lineman we put out there is automatically gonna look less explosive due to what we're asking them to do. It's also gonna be harder for them to contribute early because most freshman D-lineman can't 2-gap.

I didn't realize that it has been 10 years since we have had dominate dt. That list is impressive, these guys we are recruting could change that.Valentine,Moten, Wyche and if we get Moten. That is what a Miami d-line should look like, with A&m AND McCord coming off the edge ,you would be surprised at how much better the back 7 would play. I hope Donorfio will adjust and play some 4-3 man, that is what most of these guys grew up playing,if you thinking you are not making plays=toast!!!

We didn't have any legit DT's between 07-10, did we?

The 2010 defense did pretty decent without any superstar DT's. One of the best in the nation at TFL's and sacks.

Well, things are changing. Say hello to:
Wyche, Valentine, Moten, Stuckey(or another JUCO) and Jenkins. Throw in Pierre and Earl Moore...

Sapp was the man. As a Canes and Bucs fan, that guy is probably one of my all time favorite players. Sapp, Sean Taylor, Hester...game changers. Off Canes topic, go watch a highlight video of Mike Alstott, holy **** if we had a real full back llike that it would help so much to keep our smaller playmaker backs from getting banged up so much.

Sapp had Frank Costa a couple of drives away from a National Championship, if only we could have made a few first downs.

A lot of talent there for sure. They were coached poorly and STILL produced.

How underdeveloped was that list of talent? I still can't believe Bailey and Forston weren't high draft picks.

This is what happens when you have Jethro Franklin as your DL coach

Tell me who has an explosive second step at defensive tackle that is currently on the roster? The last kid Miami had with that type of potential was Marcus Forston and he could not stay healthy and when he was healthy he took too many plays off. That kid had All-American potential, but that's not enough. Valentine and Moten are must signs.

This "READ" BS doesn't allow you to explode.

No one seems to get that, including our coaches.

The hungry, smash your guy in the mouth and make the play recruits - they don't want to come here.

This isn't rocket science!

Agree with this, we don't want our DL to penetrate but to eat up blocks.

For my money, Jerome Brown is the best DL we ever had, but Sapp wasn't far behind. I remember sitting in the OB, watching Sapp almost single handedly beat FSU one year, he was completely unblockable.

In regards to Brown, I have heard Jim Donnan (former UGA head coach and one time OL coack at OK in the 80s) say that they could never figure out a way to get Jerome blocked. We are desperately missing that type of difference maker.

What about the Palermo guy. I remember him having Calais Campbell playing with his air on fire.

They weren't poorly coached at all. Rick Petri was the D-line coach.

And is that list much more talented than what we have today? Or rather, can our current players not perform comparable to that group?

2009 - Curtis Porter, Luther Robinson
2010 - Jeffrey Brown, Delmar Taylor
2011 - Olsen Pierre

That's what you'd expect to be the foundation of the DT rotation for this year, and we're lucky that Porter and Robinson are still here cause holy **** we had a DT class of Jeffrey Brown and Delmar Taylor.

Before Jerome Brown we had Eddie Edwards and Don Smith who were All-Americans.

It went beyond that: Tony Cristiani, Rubin Carter, Don Latimer. The '70s may have featured poor records but virtually every year we had disruptive guys on the interior. That's partially the reason we were able to overachieve occasionally and pull out upsets (Texas) or near upsets (Oklahoma twice).

I really enjoyed those years. I learned to watch the defensive tackles or nose guards on every play. It was also my dad's favorite position. He went to school with Nick Chickillo and used to tell me how big he was, with massive hands and limbs. In his final years, my dad would always ask about our prospects at defensive tackle, whether we had anyone worth watching. It saddened me to say no.
