Herbstreit's thoughts on the Canes

"Herbstreit said that he got his first real taste of the rivalry in the 1998 game in the Orange Bowl when Anquan Boldin, a true freshman at the time, caught a ball near the UM sideline and Miami's NFL alumni were on the sideline giving him the business. He said that he remembers Bolden getting up and getting in their collective faces and jawing with them right back.
"I thought that there was going to be a major brawl," Herbstreit said. "The freshman gave it right back to them. That to me was the last great memory of a UM-FSU game. Chris Weinke was trying to win a Heisman that year and Ed Reed was dancing in the secondary and I remember this freshman getting into the faces of UM alumni and nearly starting a war on the sidelines."

And can we fact check that 1998 story? Anquan Boldin was not on FSUs team in 98'. He was a freshman in 2000 the first time he played against UM. I remember because he lit our a$$ up in the OB that year. Along with Atrews Bell and the other WR. But we still came out on top. And I am almost certain that the WR core in for FSU that year was Peter Warrick, Laverneous Coles, and Ron Dugans. NO true freshmen was getting burn that year.

The guy is a analysis, not a UM Historian. So he got the year wrong, does that make the story wrong too? Sheesh

Every fan base has there step children that don't have any sense. What can I say, we aren't immune to that fact either.

Hopefully you weed them out without to much collateral damage to those who are just here to chop it up with our in state rival and keep it civil.

The fact that the only thing he can remember from that game is Bolden yelling at Twan Russell on the sideline tells you all you need to know about Herbie. Good job though to Strauzer and the SOTU guys.

He also recanted that story on I think it was SVP show as well and he prefaced that one with saying the first time he realized how intense that rivalry was is when that story written above occurred. He didn't say that was the ONLY thing that he remembered or that it was the MOST memorable event in the rivalry, but rather that is when he really started to take notice of the rivalry but if ya'll wanna make something out of nothing...go right ahead.

its just another example of how underprepared some of these so called analysts are...i understand the guy is human but its pretty sad how far journalism has fallen...i can remember beng a 4 yr old kid and hearing bobby 'the brain' heenan yell at gorilla monsoon "I AM A BROADCAST JOURNALIST" and knowing how dumb he was...and with the idiots on TV nowadays (where it's essentially a prerequisite to be a former player, SMDH) they make the brain look like he really was.

and the end of the day, u have to have the facts straight or you look like an idiot and undermine your entire operation
