Haynes King 2020 4* QB is a Prospect Miami Should Evaluate

Comparison is Ryan Tannehill according to some guy on 247. Ran a 4.5 recently at 6,3 183

Tannehill ran a 4.65 40. . This kid ran a 4.08 shuttle which is ELITE for a CB or WR much less a QB. Only 10 NFL guys ran better than a 4.08 this combine.
Im just concerned about arm strength. Hes throwing straight ducks

He obviously doesn't have a cannon, but i think the undisciplined footwork is the issue. He throws a good ball when he's set right, but def a high wobbler rate when he doesn't set his feet correctly.

Nothing to make me say wow in his film. Hope he’s not the guy.

I mean, I doubt we get him, but I dont get lazy takes like these.

He's the #2 dual threat QB in the country per 247.
He has ridiculous stats (which everyone harps on here)
He's a freak athlete: 4.47 40, 116 SPARQ (better than everyone, yes everyone at the Miami Opening except Cavazos and Chaney)
Most importantly, Texas fans/writers RAVE about this guy. Most of them would prefer Texas take him and not Hudson Card, who is a great prospect himself.

If you're waiting for the next Carson Beck, there isnt one (outside of that DJ kid were not getting). And if you need elite arm strength to like a QB, then you sound like Richt wanting Sitkowski and Max Johnson

Honestly I do question his arm strength but at the college level you can be a good qb and not have a cannon. It’s a dangerous thing against top tier teams but in the ACC coastal it’s ok really. Arm strength is more important in the NFL where everyone is a beast athlete that can jump routes.

1.) It's never a good idea to doubt TX QBs-their track record speaks for itself.

2.) For those that are questioning the velocity on some of his throws-how was Dorsey's arm strength?

Not to bash or downplay Ken's legacy, but he was surrounded by stars and knew how to win.

Not that this kid can't be that but...

It’s a lazy answer cause I’m not excited about him. They compare him to Tanneyhill, if that’s not a huge red flag then u don’t know football. Webb film better than this kid. **** even the kid from Conn is better as well.
Cali kid ahead of him as well. There you go, better answer for you? Lol

As someone who is far from having a nuanced understanding of QB evaluation, I just want to list some of the things that have me all aboard the Haynes King bandwagon:

  • Production: King threw for over 3,800 yards with 42 touchdowns and added over 600 with 8 more scores on the ground. He did this while playing a significant amount of time under center. So he wasn't just standing back in a HS air raid scanning the field. He was regularly turning his back to the D, executing play action, and then scanning the field with great success.
  • Winning: He led his team to winning the state championship with an undefeated record (school hadn't won states in 8 decades--this is no perennial powerhouse); 13-2 as a Sophomore.
  • Elite Athleticism: Dude just tested out of this world athletically at the opening, running a 4.50 40 and a 4.08 shuttle. Those are outstanding numbers for a slot WR. This guy is a QB.
  • Growth Potential: This kid apparently grew 2+ inches between Soph and Junior year and also had a tremendous jump in his testing numbers, from a high 4.6 40 to a 4.5 flat. He still has a baby face, and I'm betting he's not done growing. One of the main 247 Texas guys has him as the best QB in the state largely because he literally saw him growing and developing over the course of the season with improved arm strength and build. I wouldn't be shocked if he turns out being a 6'4 210 pound QB running a 4.5 with a 4.0 shuttle
  • Accuracy: He completed 69% of his passes while obviously throwing at a high rate and you see in his tape that he regularly sticks it on his man.

I think this kid is a gamer with high upside and is on a clear upward trajectory
