Hayes Fawcett story about Jeremiah Smith

Of all the teams that this young man could have chosen, he had to betray Canes fans and go play for Taint, the program responsible for the death of ours, thanks to the most corrupt call in the history of Championship games by Ohio born and raised referee, Terry Porter.

This one hurts and stings on a whole other level.

At the end of the day we have to acknowledge the job that Hartline does with receivers. No blame in that, for a kid to put himself first. Just sucks he's not a senior this season.

What has Hartline done? Someone just said jit was a 5 star beast before he left south Florida. Now let's look take a look at other osu receivers MHJ son of HOFer. Olove 4 star 34 ranked wr out of HS, Jason Smith Nijba 5 star ranked 5 wr out of HS, the WR that left Alabama wr room and was a finished product as soon as he stpped on OSU campus.

I'm sorry but this narrative about Hartline being a god like WR coach is BS, he just gets the best HS WR recruits to make their way to Columbus. Usually only 1 a year and they are feed the ball with an capable QB and a awesome running game.

People look at this with the wrong lens. OSU didn't land JJ last year. They landed him 15 years ago when they started going on a terror in CFB via facilities, recruiting networks, donor buy-in and an overall commitment to being at the top of the line in all facets of a college football program. These things have put them at the top in team accolades and recruiting now for well over a decade. If Miami does that at that same time instead of fading into irrelevancy, I think it's no question he is in Coral Gables. But that's not the case. I don't fault the kid for going to OSU and I don't fault Mario for not getting him. That's almost two decades of reputation that Mario has to recruit against. Just gotta be ready for the next great one because we weren't ready for this one.

Amazingly accurate post but you’re going to get fried by all the usual suspects here who just expect whoever our coach is to out recruit those programs just because. I don’t blame the kid either - go to the ready-made, sure thing program at the moment, or stay home and be sold some hopes and dreams of being able to be back on top again someday. I understand when a kid makes either choice.

I understand that, and know that he made a business decision for him and his family. It still doesn’t take away the sting of it being those jabronies.

So what is it gonna take to get the “next one”.
There is one at the west that may be really good and his mother is literally in our hall of fame and it seems really quiet in that front.
Now if you tell me that we offered Smith double what osu did and he didn’t come then I get it.
But if we just matched and went a little over and quit then that’s unacceptable imo.
This is very simple. You spend money to get money.
J smith alone would move ticket sales. Playoff runs leading to more ticket sales, merchandise, advertisement and even more nil opportunities.

Jfc I thought this was figured out by the new admin already.

You likely don’t have to overpay for Calvin Russel because you went all in plus the mortgage for J Smith.
And Russell is likely looking at J smith in that red and white a little different now.
So now you’re gonna have to offer more than osu for a dude that is likely nowhere near what J smith is.

And osu likely didn’t offer as much as we did because they overpaid for olave Harrison etc….

It’s getting to the point that what the program is doing is not matching what they’re are saying.

USCw got Thanos out of Louisiana. likely overpaid and good for them and if he succeeds he was worth it.

It’s way more stupid to overpay for Dylan Stewart when you're so Carolina than overpaying if you’re Miami.
Why? because we have a bunch of kids down here wanting to see domination. And no elite kid wants to go to usce. Imagine this team in 2024 with Dylan Stewart and J smith on it. We’d be in the playoffs and looking like the shiny new toy. Now we just look like the same toy with new paint.

Thats how you prepare for the “next one”. You get the one thats there right now. Yes the tri county area produces a lot of nfl talent.

But neither , Jeudy, Hollywood brown, zay flowers, Moore, Brooks or any other receiver in the last 10 years is J smith. And good look thinking that one year later you’re gonna get another one because you’re not. Bit since you failed your gonna have to battle teams offering less than you.

That’s how osu was able to establish that reputation. By paying for the guy right now!

The recruiting class failures this years is saying a lot more than the insiders pumping sunshine and dollar bills.

Get the dudes and stop with excuses about culture and overpaying.

Now all we need to see is J smith working out at green tree preparing for the combine just like that other osu grad was.
That was the dumbest sht Mario ever did here was letting an osu alumni work out here while he was recruiting a dude that they were after as their number one overall must get.

For such an elite recruiter he failed big timé in smith. Sorry that’s a fact and you can excuse it all you want. He’s getting paid to not let that specific sht happen. This isn’t a dude from Riverside or Palo Alto.

That miss is gonna haunt him and this team. And osu knew it from the jump.

Jit might end up being the best WR to ever come outta Florida.

**** sucks seeing him ball out and of all places Ohio State.

What ever Miami offered.. they should have added 2 million plus on top.. he’s worth every cent and more.

Could have added 5 million more and it wouldn’t have mattered. Gut feeling is he had no serious intention of going to UM. I think his main goal was to be top pick in the nfl draft. He isn’t dumb- he knew cam Ward was a one year rental. UM hasn’t really been known for attracting top qb recruits the past decade. Big question mark on who would follow Ward. Ohio St has been a qb factory past few years, so he knew year 2-3 chances are good he’d still be catching passes from a top qb.

And before anyone says that having Smith on the roster would attract a top qb, there’s no guarantee of that- we just had the top offense in cfb and qb who is a lock to be a top 5 pick, but QBs aren’t exactly lining up to play for Cristobal now.

But smith is playing his *** off with a dude not named Ward. Plenty of Belitnikoff winners didn’t have a Cam Ward.

If you don’t think that paying a lot more than osu wouldn’t change his mind then you’re crazy. Do you know him personally to make that statement?
The dude at suckeye state is also a one year rental and those freshman and 5 stars haven’t played one cfb snap. People said he wanted to play with air Nolan but he portaled. And smith sure as fck ain’t following him.

People want to ignore the fact that the rumor was that it was the most that Ohio state ever payed a recruit. And if that’s true then they get it and we don’t.

The question we should all be asking is how much of our future did cam Ward cost this team? How many multi year eligible portal players and recruits did we lose out on for a one year rental on a team that didn’t make the playoffs. Cause I would’ve preferred a team of elite players over a one year record breaking qb with no trophies to show for it.
At least we would say “hey all we need is a qb cause almost everything else is there”.
But no. We need a bunch of sht as well as a qb.

Another poster on this board said he knows him (friend of the family? I don't remember the exact relationship) and said Smith is laser focused on the NFL. That's his #1 priority. College is a nuisance. He'd leave Ohio State in a heartbeat for the NFL now if he could.

IMO if he is that focused on the NFL, then he was probably deadset on going to go college where he thinks he has the best chance of getting drafted high. There isn't much debate that Ohio St has a better track record lately for getting WRs into the NFL. NIL money is chump change compared to what he would make as a top 5 pick, so that's why I think even a $5 mil NIL offer from UM wasn't going to convince him to turn down Ohio State.

He’s smart enough to know he balls out regardless where he lands.

Maybe, but why take the chance of having to catch passes from Emory Williams for 2 years?

I don’t subscribe to the idea that it doesn’t matter where a player goes, the nfl will see the talent. Anyone making a good business decision will go where chances are best (based on track record).

Smith is going to be the new Dalvin Cook when people talk about players we missed when comes to recruiting.
Nah… Davin Cook played Miami every year and beat Miami every year .. we felt Davin’s impact first hand. Smith was a miss but as long as he is not doing damage to us .. I’m ok.
