Haskins Commits to Miami!

He looks like he's 6'6''. He's huge.

Watching his film again he still seems slow. Has a nice frame, though. I'm pretty sure at UGA Richt liked having a nice big body TE in his ****nal that can block, move the chains, and be a redzone threat. Haskins will be a nice compliment to the more new-aged TE: pass-catching and athletic specimen Njoku.

I remember watching Njoku's tape thinking "man he looks slow as heck to me". I was only ok with it because of his high jump record....hopefully we strike gold twice.

You know after your Kevin Olsen epic fail your ability to watch film and decipher a player's ability to develop is downgraded to zero.

He doesn't look slow to me. He just has those long strides. Dude is covering some ground.

Well i watched Olsens tape and wasn't impressed. I also watched Njoku's tape and i felt the same as valid, didn't look quick at all but he was athletic and could obviously jump. Few things on Haskins he has strong hands and uses his body well to box out defenders. But he needs a redshirt to get a full year at TE before seeing the field.

He has some monster strides when he runs, it looks slow, but look at the separation he gets on the defender..
I'm not an expert at evaluations but in that clip his steps actually make him look slow kind of deceiving. He appears to have good hands as well

It's the fact that although he's a strider, he has really good feet and can pivot to change direction quickly while accelerating back to his top speed immediately.

But let this dumb ****z be mad about me saying his feet are better than Warlords...smdh

agree. the kid is physically imposing.

Great size, huge hands, and big frame to block. Tight ends can come out of nowhere to be successful so nobody really can say just yet. He certainly has the athleticism and size and was a basketball player which is something we all like in our tight ends.

Coach him up hartley and this kid looks like he could be the next great one at the U

Jordan Reed!
Would be lovely if he turned into that kind of target

Those of you who didn't like Njoku's tape can sit this eval out. You cannot judge a TE as a WR. It's not a classic skill position. All types of guys succeed at it. It's about being a living, breathing mismatch, sure, but in your role.

Coach Richt and Hartley went all out for him, they really want him and that's good enough for me. I don't see him being slow, he covers a lot of ground and is a long strider, you gotta take into account that he's a big dude. Looks good at DE and made some impressive throws at QB too. He's just a football player, period. Welcome to the U!

Tall guys always look slow but notice the separation though. Great athlete and major pickup. Most of his tape is at QB, imagine after a redshirt year working only at tightend. Beastmode....Welcome to The U

I'm going to hold my opinion until I see him play TE. Didn't care for his tape but we'll see. Nevertheless WELCOME TO THE U!

He's a big-bodied athlete playing TE; a good recipe for success. The rest is scheme and getting him the ball. He and Miller are my sleeper studs. Exited about his commitment.

TE Jovani Haskins saw no need to wait.

He knew today he wanted to be a Hurricane, so he went ahead and let UM coaches know.

"I love Miami," Haskins said. "I like watching Miami on TV, the attitude they play with. To be honest, when I play a college football video game I always choose Miami. I have family in Florida as well, and I like the weather.

"I already had my mind made up so I decided tonight that I might as well go ahead and commit."

As recently as December, UM appeared an unlikely destination for the rangy playmaker. Early that month he announced a top four of Virginia Tech, West Virginia, North Carolina and Pittsburgh.

Once Mark Richt and his staff got on Haskins they turned the tide quickly. By mid-January he had a final three of UM, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, and it was down to the Canes and Mountaineers two weeks before signing day.

Richt won out.

"(Richt) is a legendary coach," Haskins said. "He's as genuine as it gets. He was talking how it's more than just football, on and off the field how he cares about his guys, how I'd be used in the offense."

Along the lines of how UM will use him, Haskins said, "(Richt) said I'm a true hybrid, he would flex me out and put me in the slot, put me in the formation on the line."

That will be a new role for Haskins - he played mainly quarterback at Bergenfield High.

"He was our quarterback," Bergenfield coach Rob Violante said. "We brought him up as a freshman at the end of the year and he was involved in special teams. As a sophomore he was a halfback who rushed for close to 400 yards, a big lumbering kid - we had a tight end going to a I-AA school that year.

"His junior year he started at tight end flexed out the first two games of the season, but then the QB tore his ACL and he was the backup quarterback. In eight games he had almost 2,000 total yards running and passing, really did some good things."

So the team stuck with him at quarterback as a senior.

"It was too much for us not to do it," Violante said.

Despite playing with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder that required post-season surgery, Haskins had over 700 passing yards and almost 700 rushing yards this past season.

"Playing him at quarterback hurt his recruiting a little bit - everyone knew he was a tight end because of his size, stature and how he moves, but it is a projection," Violante said. "There's very little film of him doing what tight ends do."

Violante adds "had he played tight end he would easily have been one of the best tight ends in the country. They kid can do any dunk he wants, has huge hands, big feet and I don't think he's done growing, is 6-foot-4 1/2, 235 pounds. He's an outstanding weightlifter. I don't want to call anyone can't miss, but he's a pretty good talent."

He has what you can't teach.. elite size and athleticism.

his ability was never the problem you smartass. can't evaluate on film how someone is off the field.

K Olsen's issues weren't even football related. Dude got hooked on molly and the party scene.
