2022 Harold Perkins — 2022 LB; Picks LSU

I highly doubt u would be saying this if any recruit that went to a HBCU wasn’t a recruit linked to us.
Furthermore HBCUs, while often overlooked, have produced a great crop of NFL HOFers &/or multiple pro bowl caliber players. Yes the resources r limited, just like other FCS schools, but if a player can play they can play.

Again, it was all laughs & giggles when Travis Hunter committed to JSU, but now Coleman (committed), along w/ possibly Perkins & Stewart having interest is the only reason U & other posters have a problem. Just keep it 100; u don’t give af about the perceived player development, u care if JSU is taking players off our plate. That’s fine, but this energy u posted, I’m sure it wasn’t towards Hunter.

If they wanna follow the bull chit Deion is selling, fine, but let’s not act like it’s no different than the bull chit all these P5 coaches are selling & they wind up in the vortex called the transfer portal.
I 100% agree and yes I do care that they might be taking players off our plate but if you are a player like Coleman And you’re not getting a fat NIL deal then it’s just not smart since 2000 there have been 7 players drafted in the first round from FCS schools and 3 of them were QBs..it’s just not a smart decision imo and if Hunter stays there there’s a good bet he’s not going first round…once they make harsh rules around how and when players can transfer I think this little trend will stop anyways

Let me get this straight.....Travis Hunter, generally widely regarded as one of the best High School prospects EVER...yes, ever....if he went to FSU to be coached daily by Joe Blow ****head, he'd be a first-round pick. But since he went to JSU and is now coached by, *checks notes* the best cornerback of all-time, he won't go in the first-round? WTF kind of logic is that? He's gonna get worse because he has to practice in a lunch shed?

What makes a kid a first-round pick? Well, god-given talent and work-ethic are by far the two main drivers. How will that be different as JSU than it is anywhere else? Next is development via coaching and skill sharpening via working against other elite players. Here comes Deion Sanders and Kevin Coleman.

Y'all really gotta stop this silliness. JSU and other HBCUs don't produce as many NFL players as Alabama because they don't get nearly as many elite athletes as Alabama. That's it. They don't get Travis Hunter. Well, now they do. Y'all are insane for thinking this kid isn't going to be an elite prospect in 3 years just because he's running around at JSU instead of FSU or UGA. He's insanely good. And he'd be a likely first-round pick if he spent the next 3 years on the moon.

It’s possible he can do 1st round but development is a thing…practicing/playing against bad competition is a thing…getting the proper nutrition/physical care is a thing…why do you think JSU hasn’t gotten the Travis hunters in the past..the odds are stacked against you imo..kids pick Alabama because they know they have the best chance to go to the league

So why didn’t every kid to go Bama 10 years ago?

Because Saban wasn’t there and they weren’t winning. Kids want to win and go to the league. You can do both at Bama. But if winning a natty isn’t as important to you, you can still go to the league from any other school. Even JSU if you’re as good as Hunter. He’ll be fine.

Most kids want to go to Bama look at all highly rated S.Flo kids they left home to go to Bama and other top programs…not because they don’t love the 305 but because a business decision on what’s best for me to take that next step and get to the league..I love that Jackson state is getting some respect in pulling hunter but would you send your 5 star son there?

I get Deion is charismatic, youngish, black, alpha personality, etc. but these kids seriously choosing to play in Jackson, Mississippi is just mind boggling. Hunter is so good he could skip college all today and still go round one but the rest of them are making a pretty short sighted decision. Jackson State won't be ****e in a year or two when Deion bounces.
I agree. Deion is getting his pimp on until Shadeur gets a chance at the draft.

We’re gonna have to start putting kids in contact with with NFL execs (Highsmith or Dan Morgan) to have them explain how going to JSU can hurt their careers. I mean how many 5 stars did we lose cause Bama was putting more players into the league? But now elite high school players are seriously considering JSU? There’s no way they have the same resources or have enough competition (teams they play or within the team) to get these players drafted highly.
Until further notice, I think it’s safe to treat this as an outlier. No need to do anything because one kid who wasn’t coming to Miami went to JSU. Even if we lose a kid or two there, I still see this as unsustainable. In the end, kids mostly pick what’s in their best interests and that school isn’t.

If my son was Travis Hunter I’d let him go to Mars if he wanted to, yes. He’s a Top 5 pick in 3 years. This isn’t difficult. It’s not going to hurt his projection in the least bit. Oh, and he’s being coached by Deion ******* Sanders as a corner. This is a silly discussion. Let’s check back in 3 years. Barring injury he’s going to be a multi-millionaire.

Yeah, everybody’s talking about the poor kids and how they’re doing themselves a disservice. Truth is, they’re just salty kids we want might go to a school we don’t think is good as us. It’s like how bama fans can’t believe they ever lose anyone to us.

To each it’s own I guess

Let's see if any of these 'shock the world' kids are still with deon in three years. Hopefully they didn't get used for him to move on before they leave. I have a hard time believing they'll get developed there as well as they could have if they'd have gone to a high end p5 school. Prime needs to stay there and develop these kids or the trend could be over as quickly as it started.

I don't doubt they could still be high draft picks, maybe even first rounders. But why risk it?

Resources in terms of support staff and position coaches can make a big difference in player development. Playing solid competition allows players to show what they can do on film for NFL scouts, and competition within the team helps players push themselves to the next level, along with developing the work habits necessary to be successful in the NFL.

JSU is clearly not at the same level as Miami or other high end programs. I wouldn't risk messing with my development and my potential draft stock. Even if the players are so good they still get drafted high, there's a big difference in contract money between the 1st pick and the 32nd pick of the draft, even though they're both first rounders.

Like another poster mention, these kids are probably just going to transfer out anyway, so this is probably a moot point.
Fair enough I get that but most kids like most people....money talks. We live in a what can u do for me now generation

The undersold part is that it’s never been less risky to go to a school like JSU because of the portal. Hunter can play there one year, shred the world up, and go anywhere he wants next season or thereafter.

Totally different world if he and Coleman had to sit out a year.
