Gus Edwards

I like gus and think he has a future somewhere. however, he's gonna lose carries next year, not gain. he is behind duke, Crawford and yearby (yearby will get more carries than gus).
I see him playing some at fb or I see him transferring due to lack of playing time, unless he doesn't mind waiting for duke to graduate and leave for the nfl. otherwise, he's gonna sit and see less carries in 2014.

I would like to see him put his head down and truck a few people on goal line and short yardage. For a big back, he didn't have that forward lean. How many 3rd/4th and short did we leave unconverted this year? More than we converted as our 3rd down stats were dreadful.

Part of that was playcalling. Why are we running stretch plays witll gus on 3rd/4th and 1? we shouldn't even run that with Dallas. we have a huge line that should be used to block straight ahead instead of moving laterally in short yardage situations.

He just doesn't have it. He doesn't run mean. Bottom line. U cannot teach that. I also think it is really difficult to teach him to lower pad level at this point.

He runs looker he's Crawford size and vice versa.

He's a disaster at FB. He doesn't collide with people with the ball in his hands, so as a lead blocker yeah..

You can teach him to lower his pad level and you can teach him to deliver a blow. Like most great High School players he was able to get away with this type of running style. The coaches just need to work on changing his muscle memory which is a lot of rep work. He can be a really good power back with good coaching. Full back on the other hand is a stretch for him.

Edwards is already past Crawford IMO, and did have more carries in Bowl. Nice to be able to RS Yearby. Doubt we'll have that luxury.

edwards improved while dallas didnt towards the end. i am saying he is a depth guy. people on here attack him because they rather talk about storm's 120 yards against no def having baylor. i am worried about the future of this program.

Dallas has a knack for scoring touchdowns and is a quality football player who can do many things, always will be a place and Dallas will do the job, St, Slot, DB Dallas is glue guy IMO

We all should be worried, but after our recent thrashing it's easy to fill the air with doom and gloom. if the Miami program has not died with all the hate and bs it has experienced it will survive. Miami is still a brand in college football, that needs a revival. There are so many concerns by so many posters one wonders if we should have simply have taken the poison pill or followed the cover of SI.

Truth be told we are the Miami Hurricanes and yes we have a chance to get back into conversation, but patience and correct decisions along with improved coaching with new assistants will be required. Golden needs to find his Plan B in his 300 page plan and get on it before its too late.

I wonder if redshirting gus is an option he'd consider for 2014. otherwise, I'm afraid he will transfer on his own.

He has potential....ok maybe I'm reaching but his measureables and speed ate similar to leveon bell and bell was a two star....hopefully this kid gets proper coaching and becomes a good power compliment to our collection of scat backs

Like this year, in 2014 Gus will be our only RB who weighs over 200 lbs. He'll be our only RB taller than 5'9". I'd expect him to have have a pretty good sized role throughout his career here.

how's he gonna get more carries? yearby is gonna get carries. duke, Crawford. I guess short yardage situations, but, he hasn't proven to be a great short yardage back and I'd roll with duke for a yard or 2 over him any way. I like the kid and hope he doesn't leave, but, he may not b/c they will want him to, but, b/c he will want more PT.

Wow! Some of you guys are a TRIP. You do realize this guy was a TRUE FRESHMEN that should have been REDSHIRTED and had no business playing this year, right? Point blank. I really feel bad for some of these incoming freshman. (CThomas, TValentine, JYearby, JYoung, especially) If they dont come in right away and have a HUGE impact like Adrian Peterson and Sammy Watkins did there freshmen year you all will write them off as busts! What ever happened to development? Giving a kid a chance to learn and grow in program? Smh.

Nobody thought this kid was a world beater when he committed anyway. Let him have a chance to grow into his own for gods sake before you start telling him he needs to transfer. Smh.

Some of you guys are really off the reservation.

He runs high but that can be fixed. If he doesn't fix it he'll have to adjust and there's no reason he can't. He's played one year of college ball. And whoever said you can't teach kids to play mean is mistaken. Again, he's a freshman. It takes some kids longer for the light to go off. Way too many of you ignore development and the comfort that comes with experience. He has physical skills and it's going to be on our coaches to help him fix his flaws. Not saying it'll happen but Edwards is a kid where the coaches can actually earn a paycheck

lol, I never said he should transfer and I don't think he will ever be asked to transfer. kids themselves transfer b/c they want more playing time. I could see him doing that to get a better opportunity. I hope the kid stays. wish he could redshirt. wish he was able to. no one said he was a bust. maybe he has a tremendous off season and makes huge strides that demand he get the ball more next year. I hope so.
I think he's gonna get less carries next year. yearby will get carries.

I wouldn't give up on Gus Bus just yet. True freshman finding his way in a dysfunctional offense. I like Gus and think he'll help us going forward. He's the only "big back" that we have. I think he'll be more physical as he matures at his position, and you can coach kids to play with better pad level. That's what good coaches do.

I think he looks ok. He caught my eye more than our other backs except Duke, of course. He just didn't have the coaches' trust doing anything outside of the most mundane stuff in the playbook. I think he can be an adequate part-timer here in the Tyrone Moss type of mold depending on what they want to do with the offense. That's the key for him.

I don't see a special back and I don't think coaching will do much. RB "coaching" is a joke we've never coached guys into or out of being special backs. You can see it as freshmen. The only guy who looked merely decent as a freshman and then went on to be great is Willis McGahee and he had special tools but was too anxious/hyper and just needed to slow down. That happened once he was a starter. Edwards looks OK but we won't coach him into brilliance.

Name Yr Pos G Att Yards Avg. TD Att/G Yards/G
1 Duke Johnson SO RB 8 145 920 6.34 6 18.13 115.00

2 Dallas Crawford SO RB 12 137 558 4.07 12 11.42 46.50

3 Gus Edwards FR RB 9 66 338 5.12 5 7.33 37.56

4 Eduardo Clem. SR RB 8 30 194 6.47 0 3.75 24.25

Wasn't a breakout star right away. Can't play. Waste of scholly. That's how we do it 'round here!
