I owe him an apology. reading his stats, he had a better fresh season than I realized. Yes, he did well against sav. st and usf but he also played well against Duke and Pitt. He ended the season avg. 5.6 yds a carry. not bad for a kid who missed almost all of training camp. Maybe he will be a little better than we thought.

Gus the Bus will be a beast before he is done at the U...

300 yards as a true freshmen is not bad considering he did not get that many carries behind Duke and Dallas. I expect him to get more carries next year and possibly some time at FB much like Mike James. He was the #1 rate FB coming out of HS by Rivals. He may need to step in with big Mo graduating.

Walter Tucker is next years full back!

I think Gus is a guy who would really benefit from coaching. I think the raw talent is there but he needs some serious coaching. He is big and fast and only was a true freshman this past season.

If you look at the last 5 games, here are his numbers: 37 Carries for 153 (4.1 YPC) and 2 TDs

I think that is pretty good for a freshman who was 3rd/4th on the depth chart.

Agree. Gus could be special. He is big and athletic which are two things you cannot teach.

Thought Tucker was moved back to LB

Special? What is your definition for special? When I think Special I think Stacy Coley, I honestly cant think of one carry of Gus other than his one against UNC when he got immediately pulled.

I just hope for the kid to be productive moving forward

Tucker will be FB, he makes some moves. Coley wanted to use him more, but Golden wanted to use his redshirt with MO here.

uh...it ain't about stats--- dude just isn't that great of a running back. sorry..not trying to hate on the kid, but he should not be a running back here.

He's a freshman. Give it some time. Give the kids time to develop before deeming them unfit to play RB back. I mean, ****

Not everyone is Duke Johnson. I think Gus provides quality depth - I'm hoping he gets a little bit more physical. Considering he is only a FRESHMAN, you have to think he is going to get stronger and smarter. If he can continue to learn blocking schemes and start trucking LBs, he'll be an asset to our offense.

He has no natural feel as a runner, and for his size, he runs softer than baby ****.

I was hugely disappointed in what I saw from him.

I would like to see him at fullback, but with an offense where he gets carries as FB. We use to use the fullback to run the ball quite a bit. Maybe that was under Howard. When you get old it gets hard to detail out those memories. Gus has size and talent we must use and use a lot.

He just doesn't have it. He doesn't run mean. Bottom line. U cannot teach that. I also think it is really difficult to teach him to lower pad level at this point.

He runs looker he's Crawford size and vice versa.

He's a disaster at FB. He doesn't collide with people with the ball in his hands, so as a lead blocker yeah..

I would like to see him put his head down and truck a few people on goal line and short yardage. For a big back, he didn't have that forward lean. How many 3rd/4th and short did we leave unconverted this year? More than we converted as our 3rd down stats were dreadful.

I don't really get the folks that are writing this kid off as "depth". He's a **** freshman who was asked to do more than expected with an under performing OLine. Sure we have some real nice talent coming in, But Gus will be in the fold, no doubt. Dallas is the one who will disappear into the roster IMO.

Then you have no clue what your looking at... You can't teach a 230lbs RB his vision & cuts. It's very rare! Once he gets comfortable & starts to drop his pad level more at contact he'll be fine. He's not Duke nor will he ever be Duke. Different type of back

you are the second person in this thread to give me the whole- "he is not duke".....Of course he is not, no one is..and I never said he was. But he ain't mike james, or damien berry or **** even Jarret Payton. At the very least we should have that kind of talent as back ups. Again, I am not hating on him as a person- he is a kid, probably a good guy, and I root for him...but just like AJ highsmith- the talent is just not there.

I liked what I saw out of the kid. Will be interested to watch his development.

And I got two words. Toby. Gerhart.

Like others said, the key for Gus will be learning to drop his pads a run physical. He has to learn to use his size to his advantage, which I felt he didn't do this year. I'm not sure it's something that can be taught necessarily. Some guys just don't like contact.

But if he does get more physical, I really like the idea of him at FB and Duke at HB. He'll give us a lot of versatility, and can be used like Najeh Davenport.
