Gus Edwards

I want to pull my hair out when Gus subs in for a play, gets one carry, runs for like 7-12 yards, then proceeds to run to the sidelines because the coaches are subbing him out.

It is infuriating and has been the case all season. Gus would be SO much better and benefit SO much more from getting some consistent carries. He is the type of running back you can give the ball to five straight teams, he'll get you a few first downs, and soften up the defense for an electric Duke.

Well cool your jets a while longer. The reason they have to pick and choose when to use Gus like that is because he still doesn't have the pass protection responsibilities down pat. He is unable to stay in for a complete series because the running back has to be able to pick up a blitz or double down on a rusher to protect Morris. If he could protect like Dallas or OT he would probably be getting 15 carries a game.

How quickly you guys forget how many times they had to pull Gus and put in Crawford in short yardage situations because DC runs much harder then Gus. Gus has a scat back mentality when runs, and would rather run out of bounds then run over someone for an extra yard. DC will be fine at RB next year and if anything Gus may end up the odd man out. Heck Duke has a more powerful stiff arm then Gus who is 30lbs heavier.

Hopefully Gus will find that Dog in him this spring otherwise, he may be odd man out in a year or two, because remember Walton Tucker is now a RB/FB. Powell will redshirt next year to add some weight and strength. An ideally so would Yearby to add additional depth down the road. Which would leave Duke, Crawford, Tucker, and Gus as UM's running backs for 2014 .

An Hopefully Iowa RB transfer deandre Johnson can return to pre-injury form allowing him to provide added depth as a Senior for UM. He looked out of shape early in the season when he did get playing time.

LOL well he was in for numerous pass plays yesterday and was able to succeed in pass protection. Any more unfounded assumptions?

Redshirt Yearby??? No way he's our second best RB and isn't even on campus yet. Kid is a certified Dade County Legend and 5* RB. He's not going to allow himself to be shirted. Yearby and Duke = Batman and Batman.

Ummmmm......You're not going to be able to get away with red-shirting Yearby. He'll be 2nd on the depth chart behind Duke by mid-season next year.

Who is Duck?

Wow reading this post, is getting me crazy excited about our return teams! Powell, Coley, burns, johnson, elder and dorsett

Allow the kid to transition to college and develop his body as well as learn the play book. Last year you saw how duke would wear down as the year went on and now this year he has added a little to much weight which caused him to lose a step. Last year he never got run down, where as this year he has granted it was after 50 yds but still. So now imagine if duke was allowed to develop and this year was his red-shirt freshmen year,he would have 1200yd.

So next year we may have to be happy with the Duke & Dallas show with either Gus or Tucker as the closer.

I love Crawford and what he's done for us but I was begging for more Gus yesterday. DC just wasn't getting it done.

I was really impressed with the young man yesterday. Ran real hard, and made smart, quick cuts. I have no problem with the 3 man rotation right now. Keep em fresh, don't wear down the FRESHMANS legs. He is gonna be a real good one. Our stable looks fantastic!

Kinda funny how it works. When Gus signed we all started talking about how he'd jump over all the other guys. He did not. Now the young guys sign and he can't hold off their empty jerseys.

I thought he looked good, just not sure he has another gear. I also question how effective he'll be in the context of a spread--they run him almost exclusively out of the I. Nonetheless, he does look like the game is slowing down for him and he's getting comfortable running it. He shows some promise.

I agree, especially knowing your defense is suspect, it would make a lot of sense to pound Gus the bus for several plays in a row, take time of the clock, and do play action.

I've always thought he looked good and the numbers support that, minus the goal line snaffu at FAU, with walk on OL in the game and he hadn't been cleared.

This is the kind of kid that will look like a different dude with U Tough and some more reps.

DC has had a tough time all year. I can only remember him having a good game against UNC, and it was Clements who had some of the big runs on that final drive. I'd take Gus over him in a heartbeat.

Don't count the kid out, he get's stronger and quicker in the off season and it will be hard to keep him off the field. Kid already has good size, add some speed and 10 pounds and he will be kicking ***. We don't have one back like him, even if Cook comes.
I think he will get lost on the depth chart to much talent coming to your backfield

He probably would have ended up with 1500 yards this year without the injury.
