Gus Edwards

The injury set him back. He also was never featured so that he could get a lot of reps and develop. We had good talent at the position anyway without any drop off between the top 3 backs we had. It was a classic case of locals being favored over outsiders (which is what we should do considering how bad we are at recruiting in our backyard).

There's definite local favoritism among the fanbase - which makes sense. But the coaches also play favorites sometimes. It happens.

Gus was a victim of both here and it created some false narratives. But the transfer on his part was smart move and it's worked out great for him.

Gus Edwards is the Bruce Springsteen of CFB. Springsteen sucks *** and his band is filled with schitty musicians (Ive jammed in garages with dudes better than anyone in the E Street band) yet "the boss" has tens of millions of fans and is in the rock n roll hall of fame.
Can only assume you've not been to a concert.

As an aside, Malmsteen is generally considered a virtuoso on guitar, but he doesn't have a song that would fall into the top 20 of, say, a Mark Knopfler.

People, and by "people" I mean SFbayCane, often confuse technical expertise with being a good musician. It's the lament of garage musicians everywhere.

You never had the pleasure of watching Kalen Ballage run then. Ballage is confusingly soft.

I know we've discussed this before - but the "all his numbers came against the worst teams" is the exact way to describe Mark Walton - to a tee.

In reality, when you break down Gus/Walton/Yearby - their numbers show all 3 put up numbers on bad teams, and not very good vs. good teams. Each had their own running style, but there was never much separating their production.

CJ Henderson could tackle Kalen Ballage ...dude is softtttt...

Ballage is truly amazing

He's 230 lbs, runs a 4.46 - and averaged 1.8 ypc last year
He runs for the least yds after contact of any RB
He breaks the least amount of tackles of any RB, BY FAR

Henry/Barkley/Chubb - break a tackle about every 10 carries
Gus/Fournette/Lamar Miller - break a tackle about every 20 carries
95% of all NFL RB's - break a tackle every 40 carries or less
Kalen Ballage - breaks a tackle every 110 carries

Plus he ducks when you throw him the ball

Kallen Ballage sorry *** just got released.
Ballage was historically bad last year.

74 att - 135 yds - 1.8 ypc.

Ballage is the only RB in the last 30 years to have 50 carries in a season and average under 2.0 ypc.

And the Jets just TRADED for him when he was going to get cut anyways. Amazing.

Why do people act like you can’t get better when you get to the NFL.
It’s not even uncommon. How many NFL backs played at nothing schools or had less then memorable NCAA careers?

Congrats to a kid that couldn’t get reps here but made the best out of an opportunity at a lesser program. We had better RBs and certainly didn’t miss him.
