Guidry's resumé pre-UM

Where was Golden terrible as a DC? Not that I want him here but Golden would be light years better then anybody Mario has hired at DC here.

i meant his ceiling. he cannot handle this level of comp in terms of scouting. how many times has he said post game, we didnt expect them to do x y and z with no adjustment week to week. this drunk ******* needs to go back to the bar.

Just like Al is running Marcus Freeman’s defense at Notre Dame, D’Onofrio was just running Al’s defense here. The defense Golden ran at UVA was Al Groh’s and it was the same scheme they ran Temple and Miami. I always laugh when people say “if Golden would have just hired a DC, he could have won here. He never brought in a DC because they were running HIS defense.
 
Good coaches come from G5 but after Guidry's great season at Marshall, he ended up at Tulane. That means P5 schools weren't buying into him.

Better than Manny’s. It’s a bit too early to say better than Mario’s. Mario’s evals are first and second year players. His portal pickups have been pretty mediocre though.

That’s why I said his portal pickups have been pretty mediocre. He’s hit a few home runs in the portal but most of them were offensive players. Altogether too many whiffs on defense, specifically defensive back.

IIRC he was considered an up-and-comer. He was the DC when Marshall upset Notre Dame in South Bend.

It's difficult to know who will work out.

Mario's first defensive staff was good on paper. Kevin Steele, Charlie Strong, Addae, etc...

How many go from never holding a job at the P5 level in ANY capacity in a 15+ year coaching career to being the DC at the University of Miami?

Bottom line is if a HC makes the head scratching decision to promote a G5 coach that never got called up to the big leagues before , he better show the naysayers he made the right choice or he’s going to get a lot of well deserved heat.

Desmond on GameDay before our Wake game said Golden went into their BYE with something like the 75th ranked defense against the run and turned it to 7th. It is toward the end of part of the show.

So there is the answer to the trivia question of who has ever solved a problem mid-season.

Don’t talk to me about a dude that brings in Junior Alexis, Corey King, Nate Dortch, Larry Hope, Vernon Davis, Jacoby Briscoe, Earl Moore, Mike Wyche, Darrion Owens, Calvin Huertelou, Terry McCray etc

Golden gets a bit too much love sometimes. He’s literally the reason for “can he play DT?”. Nobody made chicken **** out of chicken salad like Fat Al.

I realize the situation was difficult for him but he was bringing in lots of players that literally had no business being anywhere near our football field. It happens to every coach but I mean that quick list of just defense I mentioned it laughable

I’m all for fair criticisms but I’m not gonna just read stuff like that and not say something
 
His scheme is fundamentally flawed at the p4 level. Way too many coaches studying you up and down at this level. He’s a g5 dc…. And will be a successful one there
