Guidry Defense

Came to say this as well. This was a perfect matchup for our defense. A team with limited talent who doesn’t run much disguise or attack the edges.

I actually like our matchup with Cuse too. They’re not physical, they’re mainly a drop back passing team with an immobile QB.

Not getting ahead of ourselves, but we’re going to have a lot of trouble with SMU, provided we get there. They excel at what we struggle with. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. For next week, I expect to be able to pressure McCord and force him into mistakes. They’ll have success because they’re a pretty good offense overall but it’s very one dimensional and they don’t do a ton to confuse a defense or go hyperspeed to the edges.
Was also going to say that Syracuse does a lot of the same and isn’t a motion and disguise type team. They have much better offensive skill talent than Wake but a worse OL and a turnover prone QB.

If they want to win, they’d be stupid not to implement some of it. Literally retarded.

That game took my perception of Clawson/Ruggiero down a notch because I’m not sure how you watch us 2 weeks ago and don’t even try to replicate some of it. Boneheaded. Reminds me of Mario/Dawson never trying anything you see other teams doing and having success vs the common opponent and just sticking to what you do and who you are.

There were other factors as well. Tyler Baron got benched in the 2nd half(It's about time he was held accountable!). Mesidor moved back to DE, Porter moved back to CB and we played a 4-3 base as opposed to our usual 4-2-5. All that and this was Ahmad Moten's coming out party. He played excellent yesterday! CJ. Clark had his best game of the season by far and Simeon Barrow was his usual active disruptive self. Bain was very solid today and had a fantastic sack on 4th down where he just out physicaled 2 OL and went right through them. Meesh had one of his best games with one of the best Pick 6's you'll ever see and he could have had another one! Jaden Harris managed to stay away from the big mistake, Frederique was lockdown and Cam Pruitt was flying around. Alderman is ok but nothing special. It was his fault on the switch when OJ passed off Micah Mays. He failed to pick him up and let Mays just run past him and get wide open for a TD. There was another play that caught my eye(Not in a good way) where a Wake RB caught a short outlet pass around the LOS and took it outside and Alderman couldn't close the distance and dove at air as the RB got about 10 yards. Mario has to stop bringing in LBs who don't have the speed to go sideline to sideline! The bottom line however is that outside of the Deacs opening drive and the long drive they had into the second quarter that ended in Meesh's Pick 6, this defense literally allowed nothing else the rest of the game. They were excellent all day allowing only 193 yards of total offense, holding Wake to a measly

People keep saying Baron got benched in second half. That’s not true. He did not start the game and has very few snaps, maybe 2 or 3 in the first half.

I noticed this as well with the lack of motion and shifting. They did do it at times, but nowhere near the number of times at GT and other teams did.

Also, when they did use motion, their motion man was half *** jogging and not running full sprint, where our defender covering him was not well out of position pre snap.

Now, although Wake made things a little easier for us we do have to give Guidry credit. He brought more guys to the LOS which made a big difference. He consistently brought more pressure. It appeared he finally had a good game plan. He wasn't afraid to bench Barron.

Tackling was much improved for the most part. D-line and linebackers tackled much better, allowing the secondary to not get exposed. When tackling was poor the first 1-2 drives, both Meesh and Harris looked awful coming up to tackle the runner. Meesh is pretty good in coverage and had a great game, but he's still awful in run support. Harris still looks like he's never played football before.

Kiko played much better after the first 1-2 drives. It was same old Kiko that first drive. Poor angles and missed tackles, which allowed huge plays for Wake. Not sure what happened after that, but he finally started making those simple tackles. Couple of them were shoe string tackles, but hey, he made the tackle and prevented Wakes player from exposing how bad #7 is at doing anything.
There were some positives from an alignment improvement perspective. Like on Bain’s 4th down sack he noticed he was the force player and got outside the tackle right before the snap and sealed the edge off and didn’t get too wide on his rush. Wasn’t the case 2 weeks ago

Wasn't sure but he hardly played. The important point to make from that is that the defense played much much better with him out which doesn't surprise me one bit!

Every LB we are recruiting can run sideline to sideline. Nix, Marcelin, Alford, and Wiley... Mario and D-Nic will get it fixed fast. Help is on the way.

I don’t know what adjustment they made but whatever it was..it worked because after the half that D looked alot different.
Pruitt and Aguirre appear to be sideline to sideline guys, getting better with more snaps
