Grad transfer OT Kennedy lands at Miami on signing day, speaks on what led him to the U

This is funny as ****.

But Bommarito trains guys for the Nfl. probably the best down in south florida. Our guys go to him to get ready for the combine/camp etc

When Bommarito first started Guandolo had him and a guy named Keith training us at Chaminade. It was the year after Beason & Cook left for Miami.

He used to have us doing these weird stretches before games and the other teams would be lookin at us like we were weirdos, and then we'd bash their faces in. (Now I see lots of HSs doing those same stretches pre-game).

Even after that first season, he already had draft prospects working out at Chaminade. Then he got his own place and it has been upwards for him ever since. He's legit.

We didn't sign Evan Neal.

That is all that you needed to say.

Devastating. But you got to let that one go. Virtually no one is as good as Neal.

I've watched a lot of OL highlights, and Kennedy's HUDL is right up there with some of the top OT recruits. He needs to get stronger in 1:1 run blocking. Everything else looks good. He's got great burst and balance, doesn't take plays off and plays with confidence, is smart, handles rush ends very well, is especially strong in zone and pass pro. I'm going to go out on a limb and make the claim he will play at a higher level than what I saw from McDermott and St Louis over the past two seasons. ... But no, he's not Neal.

“In my career at Butler, I’ve played against some good competition,” Kennedy said. “I played against NC State, Florida, and then I also had to block this cat from San Diego, who owns the record for career sacks at that school. So I’ve played good talent.

I don't see where he would have played Florida or NC State. Butler's schedule is here and all seasons during his Butler career can be viewed. Butler hasn't played UF or NC State during his career. https://butlersports.com/schedule.aspx?schedule=56&path=football

Also, the University of San Diego all-time sack leader is this guy. He's 6'1" 240lbs. He'll be going up against far more physical DE's at UM. https://usdtoreros.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=958

Projecting his level of play at UM is speculative. There are no data points available to indicate how he'll fare against bigger, stronger and faster P5 DE's. Hopefully he is one of those very rare Pioneer league players who can make the jump and hold his own physically. But it's also possible he can't. Dicey proposition to be putting all our LT hopes in him.

Certainly you make valid points but nobody is putting all their hopes on the kid. He is being added to the mix and if he proves to be our best LT then he will start and if not our depth is still better than it was before Kennedy signed.

Love the pickup. Our tackles suck he is likely an upgrade from anything we got out there. He has 2 years of experience out there and that counts for something. He is working out at Bommarito which is likely better than anything Gus would be doing with out s&c. His signing was BIG TIME

You would think for such a "need a few physical growth years" position, UM would focus more on JUCO/Grad transfer athletes at OL. The constant swings and misses at HS "5 stars" who arent going to play right away doesn't appear to be productive.

They brought Tito in last year, Delaney the year before and Dean as well. These guys all had their moments, I remain open minded until see player in action.

Things that make you go .... hmmmmm.
Good fact checking on your end.

sounds like a jag

Sounds like a guy who appreciates what he sees is a good thing despite having previous knowledge or experience. We have fans on here who think they know things but know only what they see on TV or hear but don’t know much else. Whether he is good or not, I glad he saw through all the BS negativity surrounding our team. He saw opportunity and the big picture and joined the U. Thank U Mr. Kennedy!!!

PS to my prior respone.

I’m listening to his audio interview and what he actually said was that he played against drop downs from Florida and NC State.
My interpretation of it is that drop downs are guys that transferred out of those two schools to a lower level school and he played against them at those lower level schools (as opposed to Florida or NC State).

This fits, for me at least, as he seemed very forthright and even keeled in his interview (I.e didn’t come across as embellishing or exaggerating).

He still dominated much better competition than 99% of HS OT’s see. So based solely off that, he’s a very college-ready player that should perform better than just about any HS recruit we could sign. Those HS recruits may be better than him in their 2nd and 3rd years but for this season he will likely be a superior player. He’s a perfect fit, this gives guys like Campbell that should be quality starters more time to develop.
