Man, McGahee has had a heck of an NFL career. I hope some RB-needy team gives him a chance to pad those stats.

Wow, can anyone else have this sort of debate? For one season, you have to go Willis because well doesn't he hold the season record at Running Back U? Seeing Frank in the NFL gives you the feel for a Gore year without injury. Think you have to say Willis because the numbers are there to see.

But how sweet is it to be a Cane and talk about these two when you have Portis giving us a NC year before and destroying NFL, and Edge, and, and, and, without end. Then of course, the Playmakers of the world say hands down Mel Bratton was the best ever until the knee. And know Duke comes along and next year Yearby will throw his hat into the ring. It is great to be a Miami Hurricane.

Anyone watch Frank last year?

Yeah, he is STILL one of the best. He's got the best vision of any running back I've ever seen.

He could have been the GOAT. Willis was a beast no doubt, but Gore would have been legendary.

**** shame he blew out both knees, still has arguably the best vision I have ever seen from a RB. Just scary how he sees plays develop.

Honestly I thought two years ago Frank was heading downhill but last year he shocked me. He looked as in shape, explosive, and fast as he ever has. Harbaugh has added years to his legs as well with the shared workload and Frank has clearly put in the work.

I think the most clear part of this whole thing is that it absolutely sucks that we have to make clarifications in this discussion. The what ifs here cost us potentially two national titles in 02/03 and 03/04. Not much of a stretch to think that we can win vs. OSU with McGahee, and who knows what a healthy Gore does for this team both of those years.

The answer has to be McGahee because he had one of the best seasons a RB has had nationally over the past 20 years. Other guys may have compiled big yardage numbers, but considering the stage he was doing it on it's hard to throw many against him. I'm not as old as some, but at 26 I can pretty confidently say that he, Adrian Peterson, and Reggie Bush were the three best college RBs I've personally ever seen.

Now, Frank Gore is obviously a special case because of what happened to him with injuries, though he likely would have been the better because he'd have been the guy over McGahee. As an earlier poster said, he was just a natural talent at the position, which is absolutely proven by the way he plays the position today. If a young player wants to know how to play running back, they need to watch him. Vision, quickness, power, he's everything a RB needs to be, scary that most of it would be a few notches above if the knees were healthy.

If brock played the way he did in 04 in 03, we would have won the chip either way

Gotta go Gore here for the same reasons of him jumping McGahee on the depth chart when they were both healthy. That and Gore made runs that were just unreal.

2001 Stats:

McGahee
Attempts: 67
Yards: 314
YPC: 4.7
TD's: 3

Gore
Attempts: 62
Yards: 562
YPC: 9.1
TD's: 5

Gore comes in a year after McGahee, jumps him in the depth chart, and almost doubles McGahee's ypc.

Gore's game vs. West Virginia when he had 6 atts - 124 yds - 2 td's ....was unbelievable. Watch the runs at 8:00, 8:40, and 9:38.

Gore all day and no disrespect to Willis. Gore would have ended up a top 5 all time back if he didn't injure those knees. **** he might still end up being a HOFer if he can hold up another 3 or 4 years.

I wasn't aware that Gore and McGahee were so close as far as NFL stats go. I figured Gore was ahead by a large margin. I would like to see Stephan Morris throw for over 4,000 yards this season and put his name into the hat.
