Miami had a lot of momentum until the Shapiro thing, and then recruiting sort of ground to a halt. Once things started clearing up a bit, when some of the damage seemed to be mitigated by conflicting reports, and once we gave up the bowl (which recruits love as it means they are very unlikely to miss one moving forward), the staff was able to fight, claw, push and do whatever it took to get the train rolling down the track again.
This staff had a LOT of handicaps to overcome:
1- 6-6
2- Late to the party in recruiting this class (recruiting is a 3 year process now)
3- The Shapiro bomb and the negative publicity
4- Rivals armed with a lot of things to negative recruit about
5- And to a lesser extent, the Golden to PSU rumors for bit- they were put to rest with his extension.
To do what they've done with all that going on?
Standing ovation.
