golden with joe rose on WQAM 11/25/13

About 18 months ago, well into the Shapiro fiasco, had anyone stated that we would be 8-3 at this point in year 3 and looking at a potential top five recruiting class, most fans would have be calling you crazy. What Al did wrong was have a bit too much success too soon and raise expectations to an unreasonable level. We are actually ahead of schedule for what could reasonably be expected with all the crap that he has had to deal with in the last three years.

Just win this week, win the bowl game and finish recruiting strong.

Make the necessary decisions but win those games.

Pittsburgh has an explosive offense????

The same Pitt that is 106th in total offense?

Not that it matters how bad it is. Our defense operates as a "force multiplier" for opposing offenses.

He's trying to manage (up) our expectations. So, when Savage torches us and their running game gashes us, Golden can come out and say, "well, we knew they were a tough offense."

You know the drill.

I was under the impression our expectations have completely managed by this point. Grant they were too high going into Tally, but VT and Duke got them completely under control. We expect to continue to give up 500 yeads against every D1 school we play and lose to a lot of them even ones we never lose to. We expect to have no sound reason to attend games. We expect to hear how despite all the hard work of the DC, players continue to make ME, stay out of position, and blow assignments. We fully expect the get slaughtered by Pitt. We expect to be scared to death by just about any Bowl opponent. Oh, one more thing, we expect a new coaching staff at the end of next year.

Personally, I am busy watching Browns' games and routing for them to lose. Then Chudzinski might be looking for work about the same time.

What Al did wrong was luck into an extremely easy schedule and fail to capitalize on it. I have not given up on him yet and realize that there were a lot more things in play than a new coach typically has to deal with, but to say we are ahead of schedule is just not accurate; we are on schedule at best (IMO).

Then it doesn't help that Golden says the same general things every week. I am not asking him to rip players, coaches or other teams in public, but he doesn't need to overly praise people who are not getting the job done. That is why I said earlier in this thread that I am glad that he didnt come out in blind support of Morris this week as he has been doing for most of the season. Hopefully he is not treating players and coaches the same way he does in public, but even if he is not, he should (especially as a psychology person) realize that it is going to drive fans crazy if he keeps saying good things about underachieving players, coaches, etc.

Al Golden ain't dumb... he is just not giving Pitt any Bulletin board material before the game..coaches hate it when players do it so they don't...samething Jimbo did with Idaho...but we all knew Florida State was goin to blow them...LoL

He is dumb if he retains Mark.

Heard interview. Very weak on part of joe rose. Why not say, "coach, the team got the victory, but what can be said about another Saturday that the defense gives up 500 yards to a sub .500 team?"

Reading this interview recap, it seems like it was a thing of beauty. Joe Rose can lob softballs to a UM coach like very few others. Al's got the cliche' thing down.

This is nothing more than solid practice and execution. If only our players could execute in games the way Al and Joe do during their interviews.

Can't believe I am going here but would love to hear Al go on with Sid or Sileo as they'd bring the high and tight questions compared to Rose's softballs

I am tired of hearing about our expectaions. This team expected to beat FSU in game 8. Why else did they quit and give up against VT the next week? It was not just crazy fans like me. I think Al expected to beat them too. Looking back, I have no idea why any of us did, but I think it was more than the fans. Playing for the NC is our DNA. It is the DNA of those kids. If is why you go to THE U. Bama hung many a coach after the Bear. FSU hung Bobby. Brown is done at UT. The Swamp emptied out this year too.

We know, the administration, Coker and Randy screwed up the program. We know the NCAA thing has been cancer. I guess mabe we didn't know that Duke was the whole team and losing him killed us. We should have known but didn't.

THE U is a small private school. To do what is did was unequaled by anyone expect maybe USC, which is also private but with larger alum base. ND is also private but a huge school that help invent colllege football. THE U stands in a class all by itself, and by God we are pound of it ant that. That is our expectation. That is our heritage. That is what we ripped from the hands of OK, NE, AL, TX, ND and all the other powers. We were not born with it, but we surely were born TO it. It is ours and giving up 500 yards to Duke has no place in it. Losing 3 divisional title games in a row has no place in it. Fix it, fix it fast, or you have no place in it either!

I don't understand you guys. What the **** do you want the guy to say? You want him to go on the radio and rip his guys? He knows the product we are putting out there is not good enough. There is nothing that can be done right now. There is no waiver wire. There are no trades to be made. All he can do is try and survive this defensive roster and recruit his *** off. Going on the radio and ripping everyone (including _'Onofrio) serves no one other than the message board coaches that reside here and on other boards. Yea its tiresome to hear, but he is contractually obligated to do these shows and press conferences and unfortunately the situation has and will remain the same until he can get some new players/coaches. There is nothing else for him to do other than try and keep things in a positive light until changes can be made.

-stephen morris' play: injury has been significant, now it's passed. now he needs to be more consistent. he hurried his feet, didnt throw in rhythm. must improve comp% and 3rd down to prevent defense from being on field so much. proud of stephen, he's a leader.

Golden is so full of **** it's pathetic that his name is attached to this program

Jesus that's bad.

it doesnt matter UVa has the 86th ranked offense and wouldve beaten us if Rocco or Sims was still their QB.

VT has the 97th ranked offense and they blew us out.

Pitt being 106th means nothing they are going to light this defense up and it just will be more proof of how pathetic Golden and D'onofrio are as HC and asst HC w/ a *** *** defensive schem.
