Golden top 20 coach and Gaturds and FSU not

FSU not winning last year was the biggest choke job since UM choked in '02.

That said, I like Golden. He's proven capable of recruiting in bad conditions. Now if he can start winning the close games, the big games, we'll have something.

This year should be telling. 10 wins...

1) We didn't "choke" in 2002...we were robbed

2) FSU didn't even make the NC game last year, so I don't know how you can compare the two (they barely beat GT in the ACCCG).

Ok, we were robbed, I'll give you that. However, like JJ said in the past you can't leave it in the ref's hands. If we scored another TD before OT, what would that BS call have meant? Nothing.

FSU with all that talent, loaded roster, etc... that was a choke job. If they were going to make a run for the title last year was it. Choke.

Or all that talent/loaded roaster was over hyped? That's usually the case with FSU.

Like the Golden love but let's be honest, there are more qualified coaches that should be in front of him. Les Miles, Mack Brown, and Mark Dantonio for examples.

It has always baffled me that Les Miles cranks out 10 win seasons in the hardest division of the hardest conference in college football but gets very little respect nationally and no respect in Baton Rouge.

I guess they consider him dumb and a poor game day coach, but he recruits like a monster and consistently churns out one of the meanest, toughest, rootinest tootinest gang of boys in the SEC. A real slobbering, tougher than your Granmammie's elbow skin bunch he runs with up there. Group of downright ornery sumbitches coming out on the field for Les.

The truth. Although he can be erratic on game day, I wouldn't say (except for a few inexplicable decisions) he is a bad game day coach. His game plans are always solid and I think he gambles when he needs to in order to put LSU in a position to win. Sometimes the gambles don't pay off and he gets ripped but I don't think LSU fans always fully weigh those failures in the context of the alternatives.

That list lost some credibility by putting Dantonio behind Bielema. Wow. Dantonio owns him; every year makes Bielema make a bona fide game changing coaching mistake.

I'm glad Golden's getting the love.

It's both. Yes we were robbed but we also choked.

And when McGahee got injured I was like...

Take any of those three and put them at UM 2.5 years ago and what do you have? Put Golden at LSU or Texas and what do you have?

I'm not so sure I agree with you.

I might be naive, but I wouldn't take anyone over Golden right now. He has shown he can weather the PR storms, he is a mast orator, and most importantly he seems to genuinely LOVE this school and this city. He has probably forgotten more about UM history than most people on this board know. I truly think he is a fan of this program.

Also, anyone see pictures of Golden's wife bringing cupcakes to the women's bball team? Tell me that lady doesn't look like she's a Miami local now. They aren't going anywhere.

The reason why I'm a fan of Golden and believe his potential is great is his approach and adaptability. Golden is deadset in his values and principles in terms of running a program, but interms of the ins and outs of going about the day to day job he seems to be very willing to adapt and eager to learn and his approach is conducive to learning from mistakes and evolving/adapting. It's easy to say that all coaches are like that, but I know **** well that Randy Shannon was the polar opposite and coaches like Jimbo Fisher are criticized for being too stubborn in their ways.

Golden wants to be the best so badly that he is not too proud to take his bumps along the way to figuring it out. I think he is still a work in progress as a major program HC, but I think his ceiling is higher than most coaches out there. He knows how to think big picture and work to dissect all of the little things that result in the big picture.

Since i don't care at all for the dolphins.. i'd take Saban, that's it.

I think Miami, fsu, and uf are all going to be very strong the next 4-5 years. Might see all three programs in the top 10 at the same time the next couple years.

Granted I'm a Miami fan, but I don't agree with FSU & UF. Neither one of those guys has done much to impress IMO. Jimbo was left with a loaded roster and still choked.

You might want to take a look at their schedules/records from last year. Both teams were very close to being elite. Neither team got it done at the end of the day, but I personally think they have (and will have) the talent to be very good over the next 4-5 years. Not saying they are going to be playing for national championships, but I think both will float around 8-15 in the rankings pretty consistently. I think either team would trade their QB for Stephen Morris right now in a heart beat. That's obviously the biggest variable for both schools right now--the QB position.

You or I don't know what'd happen if they switched. To put it into perspective
Texas
2011: 8-5 and beat Cal in their bowl game. Had 4 players drafted, 2 are starting now.
2012: 9-4 and beat OSU in their bowl game. No relevant players drafted, most of them decided to play in their senior year, but their kicker starts for an NFL team. Kenny Vaccaro, Alex Okafor, and Marquise Goodwin could be taken in the first 3 rounds.

LSU
2011: 13-1 and lost to Bama in the NC. 2nd ranked defense. 7 players drafted, 3 are starting.
2012: 10-3 and lost to Clemson in their bowl game. 10th ranked defense. 5 players drafted, 2 are starting. Barkevius Mingo, Eric Reid, Sam Montgomery, Bennie Logan, and Kevin Minter are some defensive players that may be chosen in the first 3 round of this year's draft class.

Miami:
2011: 6-6 on a pretty talented team although it was Golden's first year. Bowl-eligible but stupid sanctions. Top 50 defense, top 60 offense. 8 players drafted, 4 are starting.
2012: 7-5 withdrew from bowl game. Defense was horrible but we did lose a lot of upperclassmen, offense clicked. 6 players drafted, 2 are starting (Miller is supposed to start). Brandon McGee could be taken in the first 3 rounds.

Mack Brown and Les Miles both have a long history of winning and being at the top. Do I believe Golden will get us to the top? Yes, but he has no business being in front of those guys right now.

Agree this needs to be a 10 win season IMO as well. Losing the close games and the tough ones hasn't surprised me all that much considering the youth that has played, this year that excuse is no longer relevant IMO.

Came here to post this.

Larry Coker #95 out of 125 total.

Coker is doing a nice job at UTSA. He just isn't built for the big time.

I agree with a lot of people, not many I'd pick before him under these circumstances. He was the guy I wanted when we hired him and still believe he will get it done soon.

I disagree on Mack Brown. He has shown absolutely nothing more than he can coast along with a team that doesn't even have to actively recruit to get the vast majority of the top Texas talent, and talent from surrounding areas. As a coach, I'm far from impressed with him. Put Mack Brown in a less than ideal situation and he'd be a failure.

I look at what Golden has accomplished with two hands tied behind his back here, and I'm not sure either of those guys would have been able to hold this program together.

Conversely I look at what Golden has done here so far and I imagine what he would do with the endless resources of Texas and LSU, and then I look at what Miles and Brown have done and I'll ride with Golden thank you very much. You can have those other guys.
