Ivery is not starting at DT according to UM. Pierre is the #1 followed by Luther Robinson or Jalen Grimble.

Darius Smith, Curtis Porter, Olsen Pierre, and Luther Robinson will see most of snaps barring injury. Grimble will be in here and there.

Ivery and Briscoe should shirt

Ivery is not starting at DT according to UM. Pierre is the #1 followed by Luther Robinson or Jalen Grimble.

Their (UM's) initial depth chart had him listed with the one's. They've since updated it and said that was an error. Not to knock the kid, but thank God. He can run with the ones in 2013 or 14.

Coach Al Golden said there are no games being played to motivate players.

“I’m not one of those ploy guys,” Golden said. “It is what it is. The problem is we have guys who think it is something that it isn’t. ‘Oh they’re going to play me anyway.’ It’s really not. As we coaches, this is Practice 13. We’re settling in now. If guys aren’t ready by Saturday, if guys aren’t making moves by Saturday, it’s over. After that, it’s time to move. We’re really not into playing games. You guys ask a lot of questions about a lot of guys that … we coach the guys who are out here every day and the guys who are dependable and reliable. That’s who we want to play with.”

Wonder who he is talking about

I think we know. Golden is all business when it comes to football. It still remains to be seen if he will win here or not, but he sure as **** has changed the culture as evidenced by how much better shape the team is in, and from what we've heard, how much better the practices are run.

If you can recruit, and get players really talented players to work hard and be disciplined, you will win a lot of games in college football. *This isn't the NFL. *Talent that works hard will beat talent that doesn't work hard, and it will beat non-talent that works hard-schemes don't mean ****.

My guess is both Darius Smith and Curtis Porter play the the nose tackle position or 1technique, meanwhile Jalen Grimble and Olsen Pierre play the defensive tackle position of 3technique.
The nose generally takes on a double teams from the center and weakside guard while the d tackle has a one on one situation with the playside side guard.
This is why you see Grimble and Pierre as more athletic types because they should be the ones making pass rush moves and getting into the backfield more often on run plays.
The hope is the nose at the very least does not get put on skates and push back but holds those two olinemen and makes a stalemate and lets the MLB flow to the play. This frees up the DT and lets him get to the ball.
I think Smith (for nose think of Vince Wilfork) did an alright job last year we just had no one who can play that DT position (think of Warren Sapp) hich realy hurt us, when one guard can handle one DT play after play, we are in trouble.

I still got Porter providing 4 or 5 sacks this year. Shoot who knows he could just Kareem Brown it and get like 10 out of no where.
