Coach Al Golden said there are no games being played to motivate players.

“I’m not one of those ploy guys,” Golden said. “It is what it is. The problem is we have guys who think it is something that it isn’t. ‘Oh they’re going to play me anyway.’ It’s really not. As we coaches, this is Practice 13. We’re settling in now. If guys aren’t ready by Saturday, if guys aren’t making moves by Saturday, it’s over. After that, it’s time to move. We’re really not into playing games. You guys ask a lot of questions about a lot of guys that … we coach the guys who are out here every day and the guys who are dependable and reliable. That’s who we want to play with.”

every **** player with the old entitlement attitude!!! ship em out al! they are wasting space. when removing cancer you take it all out not just a few bits and pieces of it.

This is the way it is supposed to be and why I said it wasn't a motivational thing when Coach D publicly chastized B. McGee. It seemed to have worked that way as he is a 1st teamer for now, but the coaches seem to be very transparent with few hidden agenda's.

I think we know. Golden is all business when it comes to football. It still remains to be seen if he will win here or not, but he sure as **** has changed the culture as evidenced by how much better shape the team is in, and from what we've heard, how much better the practices are run.

Coach Golden didn't really seem like himself during that interview Sunday after the scrimmage.....sort of like he was disappointed. I don't think he's playing games at all with the depth chart..

Biggest surprise to me was that he seems disappointed at DT. In two different interviews with him post scrimmage I've heard him say he's waiting for two guys to seperate and really dominate the l.o.s.. With Ivery listed with the ones as a true freshman it sounds like he's not 100% happy with what he's seeing from our veterans here.

It sounds like Curtis Porter is who he is, at best a serviceable DT who has flashes but none else...

This is extremely disappointing. I was hoping that Porter and Smith would stay healthy and become a truly dominant force in the middle. We are in some serious trouble if out DTs don't step up.

I said this in another thread, but the disappointment the coaches have expressed about our DT play is probably the most concerning thing about our defense, and I thought that before this latest depth chart came out. While there's still a few weeks until the BC game, and I'm sure the depth chart will change, if we are starting a true freshman at DT, I think that's a really bad sign. The middle of the trenches is a man's game, and no matter how strong Ivery is, he's still only been in college for a few months, and I have a hard time believing he'll be able to stand up to the physical beating he'll have to take against physical teams like BC and KState. If he's our best option, color me concerned.

I was also hoping that Smith and Porter, and especially Porter, would really step it up this year. He's shown flashes, when healthy, of being a difference maker. However, it sounds like he has not been getting it done in fall practice. Our great defenses have always been built from the middle out, with great DT, MLB, and S play, and that definitely starts up front. If we're getting gashed in the middle of our DL, like we have recently, then our LBs get eaten up, our safeties have to come up in run support and they're not able to make plays when the ball is in the air. I really hope the message gets through to Porter and Smith that they need to step it up.

#UM sent out a correction stating freshman DT Dequan Ivery was incorrectly listed as starter. He should be 3rd team. Olsen Pierre starter

I could be wrong, but I think Golden's disappointment in the DTs stems from the fact they're not making plays. They're lining up right and they're holding their ground, but they're not tossing guys around and blowing plays up in the backfield.

Being lined up properly and holding ground is a significant upgrade from last year when they were playing on roller skates.

Last year the DTs were BAD. Right now they seem to be JAGs. He wants one or two guys to be disruptive.

LULZ what a buzzkill if you're Dequan Ivery.

/Assuming the depth chart they got was the same as ours.

Thanks for the 411. I'd prefer Porter be winning that job, but I'm glad some of the returning players haven't been so bad as to be unseated by a pup yet.

Big sigh of relief from me. Another site has video of Ivery getting pushed around like a weak kitten by Feliciano. When I read he was #1, my eyes got bigger than my monitor.

1. I love it b/c Al Golden aint playin NO games with anybody on this team.

2. But I just can't stomach the thought of seeing Thurston and Terry on the field @ ALL THIS YEAR, outside of Special teams.... I pray that the other guys can get into the mix, ASAP. :crownpour:
