Golden on the DTs and Crawford

Corey King has been here since August 2011. He's not going to get that much stronger by next year. He simply isn't very good.

because guys only get stronger in their first year on campus. Years 2, 3 and 4 do nothing. But hey, whatever. Haters gonna hate

He already has one of the highest bench presses on the team (not saying much, I know).

He should be playing at FIU.

So a player who redshirts and spends 60 months in a college program is close to peaking after they've been there for only 14 months??? Kid shouldn't even be playing yet. Given the circumstances he is playing under it's way to early to judge him, and he still can become a decent DT by his Junior season. BTW that play was all about technique, not strength.

Horrible technique, didnt throw hands or anything

We were always taught if you feel the double team come down and you know your gonna get pushed outta your gap to create a pile instead of getting washed into the LBs

Agree. Like I said, kid shouldn't be playing yet, but that doesn't preclude him from being a contributor down the road. He was supposed to be raw when he got here. Hopefully these guys are letting the lessons sink in, and the lumps they are taking now will pay dividends down the road. Outside of QB, DT is the last position in CFB I'd want to have to depend on 1st and 2nd year players to make major contributions, and our whole **** unit is nearly all 1st and 2nd year players. It can only get better....

Don't you guys know how it works on this board? Kid had a bad play. Make a GIF of it. He sucks, get rid of him.

Now go recruit some kids and promise them you won't just kick them right off the team if they aren't Vince Wilfork as a freshman. Good luck.

That's how you coach on the internets.

If it were only 1 play you'd have a point.

The only thing we can say about the DTs is that they're developing. Pierre is already somewhat respectable as a true sophomore, and I am hopeful he ends the season strong these last four games. He's playing better every game. King, Moore and Ivery just aren't ready. Maybe Grimble (now on 2-deep), who is a young Sophomore, finally gets going. Or maybe glassman finally sees a few snaps against Va Tech, to take some of the pressure off of King et al. But to say those guys will never be good based on this year is unfair. Golden speaks highly of them in every interview he gives.

What, y'all expect him to throw King under the bus publicly? C'mon, this is just coachspeak. The tape don't lie and our coaches know we can't stop the run for ****.

DCF,
Remember that the question was not specifically about Corey King.

"Q: Who else is stepping up?

Golden: Corey King. He's getting off blocks a little better, moving his feet. He just has to keep going. We're going to continue to work Earl Moore in there, Luther (Robinson), Curtis Porter is working with us now. Those are the guys - we've been working about six or seven guys in there."

So Coach Golden was not faced with a choice between making a positive comment about Corey or "throwing him under the bus." He could have just not mentioned him at all or lumped him in with Earl, Luther and Curtis. The fact that he chose Corey out of the group of possibilities suggests that he likes Corey's progress.

I work on Saturdays, but I get to listen to a few minutes of the games on the radio. Joe Zagacki and Don Bailley have more than once spoken of Corey King and Earl Moore as the two most promising DTs on the team. You could discount their stated opinions about Corey just as you discounted Coach Golden's, and perhaps you would be right. I guess you could chalk their comments up to "radio speak," but you would still have to explain why they singled out Corey from (most of) the other DTs.

Pierre is easily our best DT right now. Hopefully he'll be our 2nd best DT the moment Porter starts playing.
As for our young DTs, who knows if they will develop or not. We need to sign a JUCO stud like Toby Johnson in the worst way.
