#UM coach Al Golden said Stacy Coley has earned his trust on special teams returns. Expect to see more of him and Artie Burns there
12:15pm - 23 Sep 13

Golden gets it. Was just waiting until after the UF game.

Perfect time to make this move imo.

I dont mind experimenting in games like this. Gives them confidence in case someone gets injured. But I will go on record saying I dont want Coley back there against UNC, FSU, VTech, or VA. A muffed punt could be the diff between a W and an L. I want to error on the side of caution. We are not THAT good just yet. Dorsett might not make ESPNs top 10 but he **** sure wont muff the thing.

So could a TD on a punt return.

If Coley gets all the bugs out between now and GT, then he should be our punt returner. Simply catching punts (Dorsett) and falling down or running out of bounds isn't good enough here. We've got too many dangerous weapons to have such a feeble punt return game.

Golden obviously takes special teams very seriously. I had hoped someone could supplant Dorsett and or Duke but they **** sure were going to have to earn it. You can't just stick a guy back there because he is a great athlete.

Coley is undeniable though.

Not me. I would rather err on the side of caution. If we have an error on the side of caution it could cost us a game.

I want someone who can make a play out there, and you live with the risk involved. If all we wanted was someone to field the ball and nothing else, Allen Hurns would be great for this role and we never would have heard of Devin Hester or Kevin Williams.

Kevin Williams was not returning punts as an 18 year true freshmen. Especially in those days.

Devin was a diff animal. His legend had grown so much by then it was almost like Coker had no choice. He was larger then life.

Hey, six in one hand, half dozen in the other. Buddy could return a punt for a TD and I will eat my words. Just makes me a little nervous thats all.

IRRC, correctly, Williams was a redshirt sophmore in 91 when he took over the kick returning roles( and now that I think about it, he was out there in 90 as a redshirt freshman, too)

Hester, actually had to sit out a year in 2002, so he wasn't a true frosh either

That being said, Coley, is a special talent, he pans out, he's not staying for four years. Get him out there as soon as possible( if he's ready to be that guy)
