Golden on Inside College Football

Couple of things:

1- His interviewing skills and ability represent this program are undeniable.
2- I truly want to see what he can do on the biggest stage so far for him. Can he deliver a win? can he get to 10 wins? can he make the necessary adjustments going into this game? We shall see..
3- Lastly, if things on the Defensive side DO NOT CHANGE, can he make the difficult decision of firing a friend?

Love that Al stuck and brought us through the storm. Question some of his decision making during the year (players, scheme etc) but understand these are not usual circumstances. If he can deliver a 10 win season (despite the awful defensive play/scheme, despite the soft schedule), I will TAKE IT

Go CANES and hope we beat the **** out of the mighty fighting cardinals from Louie-vills

I have no problem with the seniors. They were not the problem. Most of them gave very good service. I can only assume that Williams just was up to it and that forced Al to stick with an injured Morris. Players are not the problem with the defense. Do we have 8 first round draft picks on D-- no. But you must adapt system to your talent. If what we saw the BEST system for the players we have talent level, then most of them should have never made varsity at a decent HS. This recruiting class is great. Now Al needs to go back to his big 300 page book, rip out the pages pretaining to defense and write up a new one. And, grab Zook off that stage and put out recruiting. Can't coach but that boy can recruit too. Al's defense needs him and Butch recruiting for it to wokr.

OT also spent most of his senior year on bench.....

The guy has stood by this senior class in spite of the obvious talent deficiencies. I will be curious to discover if this is a special case because of the clusterfark they endured (loyalty to this particular senior class) or if its his MO with all the seniors in the future.

Some curious answers to direct questions about the defensive problems, again, not wanting to be critical of or diminish the senior class that stayed the course.

Kelvin Cain said hello, he only wish the coach would have played him more instead of AQM and mccord. Also, Artie Burns and Corn Elder sending a s/o to coach for playing the best players, instead of the experience players like larry Hope and Nate Dorsch (sp?). We should all sit back and let this thing play out. We played with like 72 players. We could not recruit like the other teams the past two years. First year, he had no time to recruit. Let's see how we do with this class.

don't get me wrong, I'm confused with some of the approaches this staff has taken in games, on both offense and especially defense. However, I want to see how this staff can do this year with no NCAA cloud. I wanted at worst 11-1.

People are just bashing for the point of bashing now. If tomorrow it was announced the #1 HS recruit committed to us people would tear down the staffs ability to put him in position to make plays instead of being excited.

It was the #1 reason my time reading this board has dropped by half. I cant live my life ****ed off about everything.

The kid only got four carries against a weakass two-win UVA team on senior day. I felt that coach Golden did him wrong on that day. Clements should have gotten the start and got a lot more carries.

/something I made note of during that game that I did not think was just.

Am sorry I don't want to hesr that crap about the SRs etc. They are not the only ones on the team and the season is over. This is not about the SRs, their story has been told bar one game. Golden is more concerned about keeping his buddy happy. It would better if he doesn't answer. The offseason is when u freaking think and talk critically about whats went wrong. And the D has been wrong since he showed up. He knows the D is not getting better. Last year he told us it was youth and we bought it....this year they keep moving the goal post. Fire your buddy now and hold everyone accountable. Simple

That's strange, I thought we had a bowl game to play and a 10 win season on the line...

He answered the question like all that **** was about the SRs and that is a farce. Plain and **** simple. If Shannon had won that bowl game and got to 10 against Wisconsin he wouldnt have sucked any less. Same goes for No D. 12 games down, and 36 over his tenure...one game is not gonna make him better. Golden will criticize everyone but No D. Shameful

I do have a serious question about this style of defense. Is the DL supposed to try to penetrate at all, or just engage the OL and allow the LB's to make plays? I was listening to some people talk about UGA's defense, and they're trying to do something similar to Miami, with a 3-4 look, and they had just as much trouble as Miami did on defense this year. I almost think it would be better to simplify and let the athletes be athletes. I don't know if they have enough practice time to get comfortable in the defense.

Every player I've heard has said if they'd do what they're coached, the defense would be good, but then they routinely don't do it, or can't execute. I think Golden needs to sit down with D'Onofrio and try to make things easier on the defensive players. As the talent improves, the defense will too, I'm sure, but fast kids are no good if they're running fast in the wrong direction. No matter how excited we get about the skill players, the team is only going to take that next step when they start getting difference makers on the DL.

They supposedly did that last year. I remember Dorito saying they simplified the playbook cause they were so young. Here is the truth people just don't want to admit to themselves. Golden and Dorito are not good defensive coordinators. Plain and simple. From Golden's time at UVA through Temple, they have fielded a top 20 defense twice out of 8(?) years. That is not a good ratio. If you throw Miami in there, they have are going on 2 good years out of 10 or 11. There was never consistency with their defense.

lol.. we don't even have 8 draft picks on D, any round... sorry, there's just only so much "adapting" the system you can do. I agree with how they've gone about it.. they're installing their system, and they're going to take their lumps until it gets done.. but when it's done it's done right..

I dont think its this. I think most would agree that our defense is horrible and in some form or fashion Golden is involved, OR maybe needs to be involved more to demand a better outcome. Whatever the case, now that the NCAA mess is behind him he has no excuses. I really hope he succeeds as I think he has many great qualities. Now the question is can he make the big, difficult decisions to truly be successful or will he fail in making the right decision. The bowl game and the off season are big. We will get a sense of what we are truly working with in the coming months.

Golden is a great speaker and a really likable guy but his results on the field speak for themselves, which remain unimpressive

Some of this stuff he says publicly is standard coach speak. He is not the type of coach that is going to sling the dirty laundry in public. And why would he? That's coach suicide in losing his team. Geez, some of you that post on here are really stupid. You spend all your energy jabbing set Coach Golden, Coach D, the football program.

Truly, what do some of you get out of being a fan of UM? By your posts, you are never satisfied and just miserable. Maybe some of you should take up sewing class. Take your thoughts away from UM Football or just find another school to ***** and complain all the time!

All this *****ing and you poor saps have no power or recourse to change one **** thing. Not one of you is more than a pimple on Al's *** when it comes to cane football. You can even threaten to not show up and it won't make a difference because no one is ever there anyway. How does it feel to be helpless? A smart man would find another team and leave behind the one that causes them so much grief and heartache.
