"We're trying to improve on the things we didn't do well in the Florida game, most particularly pay attention to our younger guys, get them to compete for starting jobs, make an impact for us," Golden said. "We're really just trying to push the team forward with an emphasis on the younger guys."

Golden said another emphasis is to focus on the internal, not the external.

"We're not talking about anything on the outside; it's been about our process - it's us against complacency," Golden said. "We're really not calling it a bye week, we're calling it a process week. We're trying to get better, compete every day, see if we can find some guys that can step up and compete for jobs."

"We have no idea what's being said outside these doors. We're going back to work. Whatever celebration (there was) was short-lived at best. I kicked it off, was here at 6 a.m. (on Sunday), Randy Johnson was the first player in about 9:30. We got a good lift in on Sunday, watched the tape and we're moving forward. We have a lot of things that we have to fix."

* Fifteen of the last 16 touches for TE Clive Walford have either gone for a touchdown or first down.

"That number suggests we should be getting him the ball more," Golden said."I think he's more mature now. We're going to keep pushing him. ... he's a guy that we have to get involved more."

* Of Curtis Porter's play, Golden said, "He's doing a great job ... it's not just his size, it's everything, the way he's finishing plays, the arm violence. He's turning and running to the ball. He's in better condition. He's been fun to coach. He's staying healthy, has made a great difference on our team."

* Golden said only one lineman had more than 50 reps vs. UF - that would be Anthony Chickillo, who got 71 reps.

Golden said this week the team wants to add Ufomba Kamalu and Jelani Hamilton into the end rotation to help keep Chickillo's reps down.

"This is a big Kamalu week, Jelani Hamilton week," Golden said. "Those guys have to step up and mature. They weren't quite ready (to face Florida)."

* Of WR Phillip Dorsett and Stephen Morris seeming to be on different pages, Golden said, "They just disconnected a couple of times. That's it. ... We all have to improve, starting with me."

* Golden said the team is focusing hard this week on improving its third down efficiency. A hint he gave on that: "We're trying to get more production out of the tight ends."

* The plan for recruiting this week?

"We'll get the coaches on the road Thursday and Friday," Golden said. "We'll get to further places because we don't have anything this weekend. Then when we go to South Florida we'll do the Tampa and Orlando area, maybe a little Fort Myers, west coast. Then when we're back home we'll start hitting the local areas."

* Golden said the pass blocking was better than the run blocking against UF.

"We have to be able to run the ball better than that," Golden said. "That's not just on the O-line, that's on everybody including me. There are some things that were exposed we need to get corrected. ... certainly a lot of room to improve this week and they know that.

I love Golden's descriptiveness.

"Arm violence". That's a new one but I love it.

Goldens relationship with the media has certainly been a refreshing change. I don't want to criticize Randy for being a private man, especially since I have never walked in his shoes, but at least with Golden you have been able to follow along his thought process even when things are going tough.

He kept a lot of people on board during tough times because he was always willing and able to lay it out there for everyone to year. The access to the team and the behind the scenes action has been one of the real bright spots of his tenure so far.

I hope what Al means here is that the youngins gonna get a lot of work this game against the little sisters of the poor state.

Love the way he's pushing the young guys to go after jobs, that will make the vets work that much harder to keep them on the bench. Competition is back *******.

again lets see it on the field on the 21st...cause there are some issues for sure that a talented team like UF exposed...hard to see if fixed with Sav st but execution is still execution..

IMO the first unit need to play at least the entire 1st quarter, regardless of the score. Sav.St. knows what they're getting themselves into, Miami will try embarrass them just because they can. The first unit needs some good work.

Chick has been a war horse. Kid should never have had to be thrown into the fire like he was in his first year.

Thanks Randy.

Saying that starting his freshman year basically the whole season made him into a very mature player early on in his career. Kid will be a 4 year starter with well over 40 starts in his career. He was going to play his freshman year if Randy or Golden was here he was a top 50 recruit...

He was a body his first year. Should never have played the amount he did. Not Miami football. Freshmen pay their dues on ST with some spot mid to late year appearances in any respectable high level D1 program with some rare exceptions.

True to a point but having 5.5 sacks your first year on campus is more than a body on the field.. Chick was ready to play day 1 here. CFB is different now most 18-19 year old top level freshman recruits make instant impacts their first year on campus. UGA stud DE Jordan Jenkins, obviously Clowney, FSU DT Timmy Jernigan, Sammy Watkins, Duke Johnson, Amari Cooper, Devonte Fields, Todd Gurley, Keith Marshall, Leonard Williams, Robert Woods, Marquise Lee. Now a days those top 50 recruits play alot day 1 and are key impact guys the day they arrive on campus...

71 reps in the Florida game.
And he was still going strong and full bore on the Driskell fumble late in the 4th

Chick is proving his 5* rating is deserved.
Led our team in sacks his first two years while "trying to just survive," and leading again in sacks this year.

Savannah st is probably the worst team Miami will face ever.. 42-0 at the half every starter pulled at the half.
