Golden Conference Call 11/17

Dude's gone. Whole defensive scheme is going to get flushed down the toilet.

This is a big moment in Golden's career as a HC. He's reached the point where he knows his scheme has failed. Now he has to accept that, accept that part of what he has been building towards will no longer be. He has spent the last couple seasons trying to teach and mold it, and has literally been recruiting guys to fit his defensive scheme and now abruptly will have to scrap it for something else. That's a tough pill to swallow for a process-oriented, "builder" type like Golden, but in the end I believe he's going to go through with it and do what's necessary.

Our five wins last year were equally as good as our 7 this year. In fact, we are lucky that we are at seven and not five now considering the Wake and UNC games.

that's the problem. we should be closer to five and then all the we bak talk started. 11-1 12-0 and ****. Unrealistic expectations after surviving against U***

Golden repeats the "seniors have never been 7-2" line. With all respect to Al, that's not really accurate.

Guys, seriously. What do you want the man to say? LOL. I mean, he has to keep his players focused and try to encourage fans and recruits that the program is still on the right trajectory and things are going to get better. What's he going to say? "We f*cking suck b@lls"! "Thank God were not going to the ACCCG because F$U would run a train on our D"??

I dont know why anyone pays any serious attention to b.s. coachspeak at a post game Press Conference.

What is the obsession with takeaways? Just take the ball carrier to the ground and cover the receivers.
Don't let Duke bulldoze you in the run game.

The defensive scheme has not been working for weeks. What are you working on to correct things and why haven't they been done before now?
Same old coach speak. We haven't changed anything.

We're getting some offensive players back. How does that help the defense? Are we just going to have to score more points?
Is the offense the cause for the bad defense? Is Steven Morris's injury the cause of all our trouble on defense? Why are we playing a hobbled qb?

He won't throw players under the bus but he will use them for an excuse for his DC.
He would rather absorb blame himself for his special teams play than blame his defensive scheme and his DC. It seems to me the special teams have been better than average.

He is really scrambling for answers here while avoiding the hard questions.

Here's questions I would like to be asked:

Al, are you more loyal to The U, or members of your staff?

Would you dismiss a member of your staff if their methods were not producing winning results?

What do duke and Dorsette have to be contrite about? Yesterday's game was beyond embarrassing them tweeting that out shouldn't be looked down on. If golden did his job and fired his boy after last season or at latest mid season this year they wouldn't be tweeting that out

1 question we would all love to know.

4th and 1 and you punt when your defense hasnt stopped anyone all year why?

What is he supposed to say?

Al is the guy. Trust the tie. Don't be shortsighted. We need a lot of work on D and a talent infusion on both sides of the ball. Homie knows there is problems and I think it will be addressed. Support the team, ***** about it to your wife or girlfriend or dog, and see what shakes down at the end of the year. I'm not happy about any of this but you have to have faith. Lots of positives in the program and I think we will get it together. Some new blood on the staff, New QB, new recruiting class and the other ones getting one year better and I think we're a better team next year.

Susan Miller Degnan ‏@smillerdegnan 2m
.@GoldenAl message to fans: "We're going to continue to work hard. We're resolute in the direction that we're going.''

My concern is that this does not sound like someone who is questioning their defensive philosophy. This sounds like someone determined to pound the square peg into the round hole. Someone who believes that they can find players who fit their scheme and will make fewer "mental mistakes".

LOL! He is in the Shannon "Praktisin" mode. :ibisroflmao:

Look for some position coach's heads to roll, then the "New QB!" excuse starting next season. Then he fires Dorirto, so 2015 is "New DC! New system! Need time!""

LOL! Canes fans have fallen for this three times in a row.

I'll credit Susan Miller Degnan for at least asking the question, even though she framed it in the softest possible way. She got a bigger johnson than Joe Rose. lol

I personally dont see No D leaving or going anywhere. Golden loves his buddy and he may go down with him. I don't think Golden is a particularly good gameday coach but the other things he does for the program...
Mainly recruiting he can go toe to toe with anyone and that mainly should be why he stays. He need to get experienced....proven coordinators around him. Looking at the defense. Someone who can identify and stop what other teams does best. Not sit there and talk about its all about us all day with that tired ****. Get an NFL DC who has gone up against the best...if you wanna stick with College get someone from Bama or Stanford. No D must go or Al head will be on the block this time next year.
