Golden And The Staff Are Like A Pack Of Wild Animals

on the recruiting trail.

I've heard this line "Miami is definitely recruiting me the hardest" at least 15 times over the past month or so. Talk about the absolute opposite compared to the previous staff, where the #1 line out of of kid's mouths was "I like Miami, but I haven't heard from them in a while." You can assemble some dangerous talent at Miami when the guy running the show knows what he's doing. Golden isn't sitting around and waiting for a kid to decide. He's trying to make the decision for them.

One month to go and Al and the gang are sprinting through the forest covered in blood, huffing and puffing, grunting and salivating. They're under the full moon smashing through branches and trees while Alex Collins and the others futility attempt to get to a clearing and scream for help - but it's too late. They got their scent. It's gonna be hard for any program to rip away these guys from Golden now that he's closing in on them. We are about to close strong....

i completely disagree with this relentless approach to recruiting. Like many have said on here (after we lose a recruit), I prefer taking only the guys who are true canes to the core and don't need convincing.

From one of the stories I read last night on Amari Cooper (maybe it was a post here) aggressive recruiting backfired with him. Cooper said Golden was pressuring him to commit and Cooper's mother wanted him to go away. Still, I think, on balance, kids react to coaches that show them the love and push hard. I suspect some of our recent past head coaches didn't show enough love, too low key. Many people react to enthusiasm and they want to jump on board.

We'll know if a few weeks how it turns out but I'm very optimistic about Golden's approach and his ability to close.

yeah......being relentless never works............

Tracy Howard agrees with you.

Relentless can signal enthusiasm...and enthusiasm can be contagious. Makes you want to jump on board.

I'll bet you Nick Saban exudes enthusiasm. He even does it to coaches. He took just another ordinary OL coach (Stoutland) and turned him into a guy coaching the best OL in college football.

I hope Al is smart enough to figure out the keys to Saban's success. I think some of it has to do with the resources the school throws at the program, from weightroom to sports psychologists, to nutrition, etc.

Tough to argue with the part I bolded. AG is working his *** off. We are on the cusp this year, but the sanctions might prove to be a problem. I think we land a few big time targets and miss a few, but I think that once the sanctions are behind us, we sign top 10 classes pretty consistently over the next few years. Especially if Fisch stays, which is starting to look unlikely as of late.

And if this guy happens to close on all/most of the big time targets this year....forget about it, we are national contenders sooner than later, and the immediate future looks very bright, sanctions or not.
