Going to a 4-3?

Yes at Wildcat. A 3-4 turns into a 5-2 alignment against the TE's. A lot of our problems, as I see it, is alignment and assignment! Both of which falls back to the DC! Either our playbook is too **** big, or our DC does a s#1tty job of explaining it. The scheme is fine. I run a basic 3-4 defense against all of these HS spread teams in GA. I play almost NO 2 gap! Even when we line up in a 0 and two 4 (techniques), we are gonna be slanting like **** and playing one gap. For all of you 4-3 guys, you can just slide your front, either strong or weak, and the 3-4 will give you a basic 4-3 alignment. Which is why I like the 3-4 so much. You basically have 3 defenses in 1 package (3-4, 4-3, and 5-2). IMO, NoDonfrio, plays too much **** 2 gap. We don't have the DL personnel to be effective running a lot of 2 gap stuff. I don't totally know what the problem is at the U (talent, youth, incompetence, playbook, etc.?) and I realize that the College level is much more complicated than the HS level. That being said, we should have enough talent NOT to be getting our teeth kicked in every **** Saturday, by the likes of Duke, NC, VTech, etc. S#it is frustrating!

I watch Miami's games and thats about it, and never played football myself, so i dont know, but is it possible to play a 5-2 defense, to maybe slow down the rushing against us? Would this not help, or would it make another area weaker than it already is?

corch dorito?

The guy runs a 4-2-5 on the 2 yard line with a QB in the game who had run for 3 TD's already from the same formation on the same hash. Why our 4 scrub DT's weren't lined up over the C and Guards is beyond me. As for a 4-3, **** we could run a 12-10 and still not have guys in the right positions on this D

It will not happen as long as Al Golden is our head coach.

All our national championship teams used 4-3 defense IIRC.

Not the first one. Howard used a 5 -2, which is about the saem as 3-4. Only his was very aggressive. JJ brought in the 4-3 and the first year was bad. It gave us the frigging hail Fluite nightmare and the worst loss to a comback in history at the time. After that, well, after that is was Heaven. If Al player the 3-4 the way Howard did, we could live with it.

Howard ran a 3-4 read and react defense. Miami had one of the best defenses in the nation in '81 and we won a ship with it in '83.

But one thing to consider is back in the early 80s, there was no 20 hour practice limits. Schnelly had Miami practice for a **** of lot longer than 20 hours per week. It certainly made running the 3-4 defense easier back then since the 3-4 needs a lot of coaching to make it work.

And JJ didn't run the 4-3 D in '84. Johnson was told by our AD he had to retain all of Schnelly's coaches for one year. Since JJ took over the team after spring practice, JJ basically had to let DC Bill Trout continue to the 3-4 - even though JJ wasn't a fan of it. The Hail Flutie game, the Maryland game, the defensive collapse in the Fiesta Bowl - we're all under the 3-4.

JJ didn't switch to the 4-3 until after the '84 season when Trout and the other defensive coaches (excluding Butch Davis & Sarge) moved on.

Maybe we should just run a 0-5-6
Our DT's are second level guys as 2 seconds into every play they are at linebacker depth.
Really disappointed in the dt play this year. Our lbs seem to never run free as they have to shed an o lineman and a d tackle to get to the ball carrier. Chick and Shayon at least seal the edge but Cornelius can't seem to shed a block if he was trying to save his kid from a fire.

Did u see how we lined up against Dukes trips formations?

Howard, Perryman and Cornelious lined up on the receivers with Gunter on the otherside over their Tight End

We just need more elite talent to run this defense

It'll work

Trust the process
