Glaring issue on defense

Do you think we traded the wrong LB? Flagg was flawed and not as athletic but super high iq. Two main issues to me this year are: no high iq lb / leader getting us aligned. No quality safety play to mask our deficiencies at lb and corner.. I’ll hang up and listen, much appreciated as always.
Not really, neither one are really all that good.

My only guess is maybe they thought some of the younger LB's would be more ready to play a lot earlier this season so they didn't really pursue LB too heavy in the Portal. But they did know it was a need hence why they brought in Alderman.

But idk, only HC & DC can answer those questions.

appreciate you. Guess we need to drop 50 burgers from here on out. Good news is, that’s not a reach!

If Guidry comes up with another sh1thole D plan versus Wake, even if we scrape thru with a win...he needs to be fired before the next game. Let JT take over interim with help from outside sources

The talent on defense was better in 2023. There was a weird mass exodus after the season, and one must wonder if Guidry had anything to do with it.

Is Mario done with his 3rd season yet? No? Sorry he couldn't capitalize on all of Manny's recruits and evals. Most of the Diaz recruits jumped ship. So now we have got players with a couple of years removed from high school and portal players.

You're right, but Mario also deserves blame for not getting talent out of the portal in the back end.

I personally believe making huge changes on D is just going to cause another unit to be taken advantage of it. We've tried plugging holes on a sinking ship all year between stunting, not calling blitzes, running less man at times, etc.

At this point, try to fix the communication/alignment issues a much as you can and hope for the best.

Barrow @tackle is playing better than any defensive tackle we had last year, OJ at corner is solid. The mystery is all the players that looked better last year. Bain, Porter, Kiko, you think in the second year in this defense they would be rocking.

With Mario, talent acquisition will never really be a problem. My biggest concern moving forward is talent development. Is there a single player on the defense that got better from last year? These recruiting classes mean absolutely nothing if we cant develop them. This might be a hot take, but idk if there is a single guy on the defensive staff that I don't have to worry about. Take the offense for example, I don't have to worry about Mirabal and Beard because they've proved themselves up to this point. I know those players are in good hands

There were cups in the cupboard that transferred out and cups that Cristobal could have bought cheap on the TJ Maxx clearance rack, but he deliberately chose to use those cone shaped paper cups that use for water while waiting for your cafecito at the window of La Carreta.

Chris Graves was on the roster when Cristobal arrived, but transferred to Ole Miss. May not be an all star, but he’s a solid depth piece at CB, backing up standout CB Trey Amos. Oh, and speaking of Amos- he was a transfer from Bama to Ole Miss in the offseason. Was there some mystical barrier that prevented Cristobal from going after Amos? Instead of Ole Miss having Amos with Graves as his backup, UM could have had that same combo. Think that might have helped the defense?

I know- there has to be a way to somehow blame Diaz for this. But fact is Kiffin saw his DB recruiting wasn’t panning out- and then aggressively fixed it with two transfers. Cristobal didn’t.
Couldn’t have said it better.

Throw in the failure to prioritize a 6’4 270 lb edge named Elijah Roberts comes to mind after reading this.

Zone would help keep things in front of us and give more of a chance for TOs, but that's about it.
Yeah, we suck at zone too. Not sure if people have been watching

We play with no discipline, no communication, and routinely mess up responsibilities

“Play zone” is just a baseless rallying cry at this point

The staff also "believed" the current DL was elite. How has that played out?
We have been fluffed every spring and summer and at this point if anyone buys that ****, it’s on them. I’ve lost count how many times we’ve been told player X has NFL potential or looks great according to the staff only to see them face plant on Saturdays. Reminder of all the glowing reviews of Richard this year.

Watch a Missouri game it’s the same issues as it was here.
