Glaring issue on defense

But your point was that the "same players" were doing better under a different coach. Are you abandoning that argument now?
Well if you read my post then you know I made a few points.

If you had better reading comprehension skills you would know that I didn't abandon any aspects of my arguments.

Ah, the good ol' "reading comprehension" comeback from 2002.

When I pointed out that those teams didn't have the "same players" from year to year, you bounced to something about the portal. So the only logical conclusion is that you're running from the "same players" argument, since it is wrong.

So Amos and Graves wouldn’t have helped our defense? Ok.

That's the typical goofy comeback around here. Someone claims that another defense fixed their problems, then we have to point out how bad that defense is. Inevitably, we get a "yeah, but....." reply.

Just admit that you don't really know how good anyone else's defense is.

We really need Justin Scott and Armondo Blount to hit. The staff thinks they hit a home run with the ‘24 DL class. The development of that group is key to the future of the defense.
We need Horton to get healthy and be a guy as well

Can’t have an entire recruiting class not produce one DT on the depth chart

Apparently we needed at least one more...

I Guess If You Say So GIF

Respectfully OP, I don't find this "players aren't talented enough" conversation useful. We have who we have. Mario has been here for three years. He has significant resources, the transfer portal, and an entire scouting department. If we come up short, that's his fault for poor scouting and player development. At this point, it is what it is. I don't need this defense to be elite or even good. They just need to be competent or average. There is enough talent for that at least. I would move to a 3-3-5, bench #9 if he is not going to get sacks or seal the edge. Bring in Popo. Powell goes to Nickel (assuming Brown won't be ready), Porter and Frederique stay outside. Patterson to FS with Harris giving you what he can at SS. Let Mauigoa play downhill and don't drop him in coverage. Send him on blitzes and spy the QB only. Popo seems more competent in coverage. We have to adjust the scheme to what we have at this point. The guys seem to be less confused in the 3-3-5 at least. Just my .02.

When does the stuff not think they didn't hit a homerun? The fluff honestly needs to relax a little. It's also ok for you to report when the staff has actually missed. Unless of course you can only post fluff due to you having your access pulled fot not staying in line.

Setting aside the Lance Guidry scheme discussion, a big problem is that our upperclassmen are not very good.

Defensive recruiting has been abysmal for years.

The jury is still out on the underclassmen ('23 and '24 classes), but the upperclassmen high school recruiting is even worse than I thought.

Out of the '22 class (true juniors), the '21 class (4th year players), the '20 class (5th year players), and the '19 class (super seniors), these are the guys we recruited out of high school that are still on the team:

Chase Smith
Wesley Bissainthe
Markeith Williams
Jaden Harris
Ahmad Moten

That's it. Five guys (no burgers & fries).

Bissainthe might be the only one that gets drafted.

The upperclassmen we do have are transfers, most of whom are JAG roster fillers and not true standouts.

Mario has recruited well on offense, but the defense has been a disappointment.

There's promise in '23 and '24 (and '25), but we really need to hit on these evals. As FSU has shown, living in the portal is not really where you want to be for the foundation of your team.
Good post, but really? 3 yrs to fill the cupboard, after it was bare when Mario came. Build the offense, done. Supplement the D, and pray for the best. The 24’s and 25’s should be the rebuild of the D, the real rebuild, not portal rebuild. Year 3 we are 9-1, their plan is working, let’s finish this and continue the rebuild. I mean did you really see us at 9-1 and sniffing the Natty in year 3?.. let’s stop the bulls**ting and FINISH IT, 🙌🏽

OP is a gentleman and a scholar but seriously how many ****** times we gonna do this thread?
This #57 ranked scoring defense may be the worst Canes defense in two decades, and CIS is the safe space for Canes fans us to go and complain. As long as our defense plays like basura 🗑️ , there will always be good material for creating a CIS thread

I’ve been sounding the alarm on DB recruiting since Addae’s first cycle. Before that, I was warning about Manny’s LB recruiting when the board wisdom was “we’ll get better by replacing Shaq with more speed.”

The DL class was the highest-rated in the nation and the staff likes what they’ve seen. The hope is those freshmen make that step into impact players and change the trajectory of the defense. But they have to do it.

That **** is unacceptable at this point, you can watch a random game and Colorado was a 1 win team before last season.. I saw the offense send someone in motion their game yesterday and it was non factor for their defense, everyone on same page and they just passed it on..

We year 2 in this defense and no one knows what the **** is going on, everyone is confused, WTF HOW?!
I wish I had the answer to that question. I asked a coach on the board that exact question and asked his professional opinion. What did I get ad a response? Crickets!!!!

He definitely has his moments but what the **** is Powell doing there, lol, he watched him right by… 🤦🏼‍♂️
Mauigoa is supposed to scrape into the C gap & stay square to keep the RB contained from bursting into the 3rd level.

The play was ran right to his side on purpose.

- The RT & RG combo Block down on Barrow
- The LG pulls & heads all the way to the D gap to pick up the Block the RT would normally have if he wasn't doubling on DT, He puts a hat on Bain & squares him off
- #0 Christian Leary, is lined up as the H-back, they Play Action fake to him as he runs a Drag route out of the backfield to the Flats, it's an RPO option
- The LT has also pulled behind the LG & now both have flipped over to the Weak side & are leading the convoy for the RB.

Mauigoa takes the wrong leverage angle & steps outside, he gets met in the C-gap by the LT & gets completely walloped, which caverns the 2nd level of the Defense wide open.

I'll reiterate so people don't misunderstand... Francisco Mauigoa was lined up presnap Offset over the B-gap towards the left hash on the Weak side.
HE GOT BLOCKED BY THE LT.

Do you know how many steps the LT has to make to get back front side to Block the C-gap Weakside vs a LB who is already lined up in the B gap???

That's like a Baseball player hitting a line drive up the middle of the field & getting tagged out by the 3rd Baseman while running to 1st base.
