SI's Tony Pauline reports that UNC redshirt sophomore Giovani Bernard "must hurdle" some medical issues from his past during the the draft process.
Pauline is hearing from sources that Bernard is set to leave for the NFL, but these medical evaluations could hinder his draft ceiling. The Tar Heel was forced to redshirt the 2010 season due to a torn ACL, but other than minor setbacks in the last two years we cannot find any other major injuries. Bernard has certainly looked healthy the past two seasons.

Getting to the ACCCG just became a little easier.

**** good player...but he's going to have a lot of teams red flag'em.

Not too much RB competition in the draft this year so might be a smart choice.

I will be glad to see him go for sure. If nothing else but to avoid the weekly "why didn't we recruit Geo Bernard" threads.

I'd think with the last couple of seasons he just had, it would negate the injury concern for a torn acl 2 years ago. Staying would guarantee a 1st round pick for him next year though.

with lattimore hurt and dropping draft wise, who in your opinion would be the top backs drafted?

He should declare because there's not as much upside for his position. As a rb he will have less wear going into the league. Plus Carolina loses some real talents Oline in Johnathan Cooper (1st round pick) and Brennan Williams (2-3rd round projection) so it wont get any easier for him.

Yeah I've been told they have a good replacement coming in 2013

The Charlotte Observer reported that senior T.J. Logan set a state record by rushing for 510 yards. He needed just 28 carries and set the championship-game record with eight touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Logan, who scored three times in the fourth quarter, including runs of 82 and 73 yards, earned MVP honors.

Logan runs 40 yards in a swift 4.4 seconds and has made a commitment to attend the University of North Carolina.

Good question. I don't really see anyone standing out to be honest so Bernard could be that guy. I have always like Ellington from Clemson personally but it seems like the first back drafted is up for grabs this year.

Any team that needs a franchise RB that would hesitate to draft him because of an injury 2 years ago is being short-sighted, he's a beast. You take your chances with the talent he's got.

Ellington is solid, Taylor from Stanford is the real deal too. Do Riddick (ND) and Gillesse (UFag) get picked up pretty high?

This, 1000x, this.

I still want to choke folks when somehow or another, someone considers Gio a whiff--especially when if anyone followed his recruitment AT ALL, that they should know that Gio was never staying in Florida at all, not for Miami, not for anyone. Dude was going out of state all the way. He was ND bound before Jabba the Weis got canned, and fell back on his backup plan at UNC w/Butch.

There isn't a projected first round RB in this year's draft class yet.

Eddie Lacy and La'Veon Bell are going to declare for the NFL Draft, but those two aren't projected first rounders. Bernard isn't either. But, he and Lacy could battle it out for the first RB taken off the board.
