The trenches and the linebackers difference between the 2 regimes is crazy.

But schematically the longer manny was here the worse it got. Conference coaches figured him out. And maybe they shared notes. Who knows

Manny was just awful. Dude couldn’t recruit **** and never recruited a legit LB. He got lucky with Shaq and pink cause of Richt.

He recruited undersized DEs at LB. Which makes no sense since each position requires different skillsets. Converted DEs typically don't diagnose plays quickly, which is a prime skill for a LB.

It's not like converting Safeties to LB. Those positions have similar skillsets.

The only explanation is that they already see attrition to the LB core. Why recruit 4 plus pretty sure they will look at a portal LB too.

Actually the explanation to that is simple. We're always trying to acquire upgrades at every position. Not every kid we recruit will become the player we wanna see. This class has some superior prospects. Why would you avoid that? Attrition is also something that constantly has to be accounted for in the days of nil & the portal. Kids want more reps. They aren't always there. Can't keep everyone happy when no one is satisfied as complimentary pieces anymore.

it is still shocking to me how bad Manny really was. He had so much going to him- based on resume. He is literally a bottom tier coach in division 1 history, seriously historically bad.
