The most dysfunctional team in the league gave him a job so they're able to entertain.

It's the Peter Principle. He keeps rising to the role he's ineffective in. And that's HC. He's fine as a DC because he can just scheme up plays and not worry about program building and recruiting. Even there, he gets predictable within a few years. But his two PSU season show he's not "bad" at DC. I admit that I kept hoping he'd coordinate there for one more year because I was certain the wheels would fall off. He got out just in time IMO lol. But the facts are that his record shows he can coordinate. HC or anything to do with recruiting and he's a program buster.

Problem with that and why he's only been effective for a set timeframe is as a DC you need to recruit your own players. He seems to have no problems with other coaches kids. When he's relied on for his own... Yeah not so much
