Gattis, Steele, Guidry, Dawson

Dawson is literally the play caller for the best offense in Canes history

Not the best offense in Canes history today against a terrible defense. He needed to pick up the slack and have some urgency. Didn’t hold up his end. We all knew the D would play like this. It surprised precisely no one. But all the score predictions were 42-28 or something along those lines. The offense was inexcusably bad today.

Time to throw JT and Chevis in that bucket too.

Absolute regression at the DL across the board despite more depth and talent.

Chevis you might be able to make a case for because OJ but the DBs are pathetic all around and he’s Guidry’s guy.

I’m sure they all return. But shouldn’t.
Chevis hasn't even been here for a full year & hasn't had the chance to recruit & develop his own players yet.

He's been asked to make Chicken Salad out of Chicken sh*t.

I expect that hyper over reactions from most on the board because mentally they're like children, but I know you know better.

I thought it was all about the Jimmy's & Joe's?

Isn't that what yall always would say to me when we would have the debates about Coaches & Schemes?

Interesting how that works.

But in any event, it's a little funny to see the darling of the fanbase last year now taking the most heat. I distinctly remember last year & all offseason people were singing the praises of Guidry & saying Dawson needed to be fired. And now things have flipped 180⁰.

Maybe they're both good Coordinators that are working with what they have?

I mean, wasn't our Defense supposed to be better without Kam Kinchens?

That’s why I said you can make a case for Chevis. Mostly threw him in there because he’s Guidry’s guy. OJ has been enough of a revelation in itself to keep him. Scary what it could be if OJ wasn’t ready yet like everyone anticipated.

I just assume you hire someone and give them a few slots to bring in their own.

This Canes team will never win an ACC game by scoring 23 points. I am not sure if that 4th and 1 was Dawson or Cam audible, but I don’t think GT would have stopped Martinez in that short yardage situation. I agree the execution on that play was horrible, but maybe if #4 was #8 or #9, it would be a better play call.

Sometimes the best player is off. Cam missed open receivers (Arroyo and Brown I recall) for at least TDs and Sam Brown dropped a crucial 3rd down. Cam refused to take short check downs and Martinez should have gotten more opportunities.

I still feel good about 9-1. It’s a more accurate reflection of who we are
That’s all I’m saying for the offense the plays were there they just weren’t made. The defense looks like Pearl Harbor. Just getting bombed with nothing returning

I can give Jackson a pass as he hasn’t had a chance yet to show what he can do. But honestly - if you had the option of hiring Corey Raymond or Chevis Jackson, who would you pick?

Cristofail has been given significant financial resources to assemble the best coaching staff… and this is the best he can do?

Probably can find a few of these from me too. Alarmed at how fast it changed

Agreed… my biggest worry is defense looks like individuals rather than a unit. Especially because the individuals aren’t good enough lol. Our defensive roster has guys who are “good enough” to keep gt under two scores yesterday. I don’t have the fb intelligence to articulate what went wrong in detail but I know it looked systemic (aside from Jaden Harris who was on skates on two td runs).

The defense hasn’t recovered from poor coaching hires and recruiting mistakes to start the Mario era. And the young players who have talent need time to develop.

I am not an XO guy by any stretch of the imagination, but either Guidry’s defense is too complicated or he’s schematically trying to make up for a deficit of talent. Maybe both. Probably both.

Either way, there’s no excuse for the defense unable to set the edge since the beginning of the season. How many times do we have to see DEs jump inside only to see the opposing offense jump easily outside? How many times do we have to see players out of alignment at the snap?

You don’t have this kind of defensive performance by coincidence.

lol but he can recruit bro. Every unit on Defense has regressed. Take that for what it’s worth.
