Time for the Mathis bump...

TBF, Mathis to UF was never something any of us even entertained. Now as far as how that widens the gap in the recruiting rankings goes, yea it's going to be some overreactions by my fellow Gator fans...as usual.

Now when either FSU or y'all land the Rivers and Williams pair, it's REALLY going to be DEFCON 1 lol

I'm surprised so many of them haven't fallen for the Mullen myth. I figured after a 10 win season they'd all be drinking the Mullet Kool-Aid.

This exactly. I haven’t noticed any interest there in Mathis but they are already down on being behind us and F$U in recruiting. As soon as we land someone they were after, like Rivers and Williams, they’ll start screaming about firing Knox and bringing back Seider.

What we're doing on the field, we're all in and buy in with Mullen.

How it hasn't equaled to a lot of fans standards in recruiting, that's where the "disconnect" comes in at. You check the frontpage of Swamp247 or Gator Country and it's another article about a recruit that we've visisted or/and offered and the recruit says the usual "i love UF, this is a big offer for me" blah blah and then they eventually commit to another school a few weeks to a month later. It gets frustrating.

Look, I understand, and I'm not going to fight you over this. You are a respectful poster, and I admire that.

But here's the deal. The kid had SEC offers (UF and Auburn) and he is from the Tampa area (I live in Orlando, I realize that UF and F$U are strong along the I-4 corridor).

Whether this kid gets his 4th star or not, Miami scouted him, offered him, and landed him. Maybe UF has stars in their eyes right now and dreams of getting some LBs who are more highly rated. But if they strike out on 4-5 stars, this is exactly the kind of kid that UF can usually circle back around to and land.

I do agree with you on Rivers and Williams, but let's not act as if losing Mathis will have zero impact. The entire purpose of this thread is to shine a light on the star-whoring of MOST Gaytor fans, and that is exactly what is happening here. The Gaytor fans will try to shake this one off because the kid is "only" a 3 star, but let's think about this. First, UF has no LBs committed at this point, and second, 4 of the 10 Gaytor commits are 3-stars.

So when Miami is swooping in with only 1 month's worth of recruiting efforts to grab Tampa recruits with SEC offers...well, then, you might want to reconsider exactly what "something" that Gaytor fans are "even entertaining".

That's all. Not arguing with you. But if Gaytor fans keep expecting 5 stars and dismissing 3 stars, you might not be very happy on National Signing Day. And, hey, we all know you'll "flip" a few malcontent 4-stars from other programs, due to personality conflicts or coaching changes. The "Gaytor Brand" still has a few ounces of juice in it.

But I still remember the halcyon days when UF caused in-state 3-stars to swoon, wet their pants, and commit to UF the moment they got the offers. And UF could always "process out" some of those guys for more highly rated players later. But Mullet doesn't seem to have a sense of urgency about recruiting right now, so let's see how this all plays out.

Oh i know you aren't arguing at all. I think I worded my other post wrong. When it came to Mathis, it wasn't that since he was a 3* that we (the fans that is) didn't want him or anything like that. It's that RECENTLY there hasn't been much to report on as far as interest between Mathis and UF after he attended our Junior Day. A lot of us Gator fans didn't expect to land him, which is what my point was overall in regards to Mathis because it always felt like he was Miami bound. Which is how I feel when I hear Rivers and Williams talk. They don't give off that vibe that UF is a serious player. I could end up being wrong, and I hope I am, but I think you get what I mean.

OK, fair enough. I can see that, in the past month, there has not been a lot of pro-UF chatter related to Mathis. And Miami often has recruits like that, who once favored us, but by the final month are clearly headed elsewhere. I would point out again, for the record, that Miami only offered Mathis a month ago.

I simply don't think that 2020 recruiting is going to end well for UF on the defensive side of the ball. There doesn't seem to be a super-recruiter or a super-coach who can pied-piper his way to a great defensive recruiting class for the Gaytors.

Just my 2 cents.

I can sympathize. Welcome to our last 10 years around here.

Completely agree. Mullet is SOOOO much like Golden, a guy who looked great on paper at a "lesser" school, but who is insistent on doing things "his way", which doesn't quite translate to the larger stage. Not to mention, riding another guy's defensive players for a year or two and then being unable to replace that level of talent.

Yup. They’ve been focused on Sa’Vell Smalls at LB. If they can’t pull him from Washington state it will be as you said above and they will need to try to flip kids like Mathis. Last year they got Chris Steele from Cali and I didn’t see that coming, in fact I thought their strategy was awful with all of f that Cali focus so I guess we will see.

It's called recruiting.....it happens to every team but the ones who ***** the most get a tears thread. I'm only drinking tears on AUG 24th.

USC having a crappy season helped them on that one plus I read where he really wanted out of cali
