We really need to thank the ADs at FSU and UF. I don't think its possible for anyone to have repeatedly selected such horrid candidates, time after time and its looking like both are stuck in this quagmire of incompetence for at least 2-3 more years. Somehow, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking both ADs are closet Canes fans. Have to be, there's no other possibility for this level of incompetence.

P.S. Blake was right up there with FSU/UF ADs when it came to selecting coaches. But thankfully, that chapter has been closed.

Yeah you would think they were Canes fans, but the truth is, incompetence is easy. Being exceptional is super hard.

Not to get sappy all, but wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everyone here. Been stuck in a room the last four days with the rona and this thread has just kept my spirits up. God bless you all
same fam. Covid sucks ***

You know how bad things are going that they haven’t played a game yet and the fan base is already overwhelmingly mope while trolling their own recruiting with “Florida eliminated” and “hope we finish before Hawaii”?

With Lispy 99% of fan base gave him a chance before he played a game and after 1st season even though there was a few of us who were vocal, we were a small minority. With Billy it’s the polar opposite with only a small minority supporting him. This is going to get much worse and I love it!!!
Yeah, but even he didn't recruit on this epically bad a level.

I know the feels. My wife has it now so I’ve been stuck home watching my 1.5 year old while she sleeps in the basement all day. Canes news and this thread is keeping my sanity.

I swear, I don’t know how my football fortunes flipped so quickly. Lifelong bengals fan, had no hope for anything good before the season started, and got to make the trip to LA for the super bowl. And going from manny to Mario in that same time has changed my college football outlook. Rad needs to make sure we don’t get left behind in the realignment. And then, UF makes a historically bad hire and brings me nothing but joy for 7 straight months so far. Life is good

You already know how much I hate the gators, always have, always will.

But I’m going try to give an objective opinion here, even though it is one that fits my agenda.

This latest revelation about Sling Blade, confirms to me that the guy is tone deaf, lacks good people instincts, and simply does not know how to lead.

How any good leader in their right mind would think that forcing his players to contribute money to an association, when they really don’t even have a salary, is insane. Even if they were being paid a salary, I would chafe at my boss telling me I had to contribute, most people would resent this.

He simply does not know his audience nor how to lead them. His instincts are all wrong.

Here’s something else that I continue to notice about him and I think is in part of reason why he leaves such a negative impression and why his recruiting is circling the toilet. Look at his personal appearance. It’s horrible. He looks unkempt, unshaven, and unhygienic.

You may think that’s such a silly point, such a minor thing, but it isn’t. He doesn’t understand the audience that he’s targeting for recruiting. I guarantee you that the mothers of these athletes take one look at him and form a negative impression. You have to understand the people you’re targeting, and moms aren’t looking for some scruffy unshaven goofball hick to lead their children.

Think of coaches that are considered good recruiters, and I’ll tell you one thing they have in common, is that they have a presentable appearance, and don’t look like unshaven dirty bums.

I’m calling it now, and I’ll leave myself open to all kind of criticism and receipts, I don’t care, this guy is guaranteed to fail. I guarantee it. The only thing I hope for is it it takes three or four years so he really drives that program into the ground. I hope he’s not fired in a couple of years. I want him to bury this program.

If you remember with Mcsharkfūcker, I called his demise before anyone else did. The first time I heard about him complaining about the so-called threats, I knew that was it - I knew he was going to be fired. And I said so on here. If anybody wants to bother looking that up, they can. It’s in here somewhere.

My gut, and the accumulation of these clues we are getting about his leadership, his appearance, his lack of success so far in recruiting, and his behavioral patterns, tell me this guy is going to slowly put a stake through the Florida gators.

I am so here for this.
First off, I can't see you getting much disagreement about him failing around here. ****, I can't see any.

Second, you're spot on about his appearance. Recruiting is sales, and a lot of sales is about non-verbal communication. There's what you say and what you offer, but how you are perceived is absolutely important. As fans, we go on and on about the money, and that's very important, but in a world where everybody can offer money openly, the other stuff becomes even more important. So if you look sloppy, smell bad, or just seem "off", you're going to have a tough time getting people to trust you.

All you've got is a vision of your program and how it will use a kid, and your God-given ability to make people like you. al golden had some ability, Mario has a ton, and Bilbo has almost none. He's probably a good coach, but that's about knowing how to use the pieces he has, but he's a terrible recruiter because kids don't seem to like him much. And we all know how far good coaches who can't recruit make it.

Exactly. Perception is important. After Mullen gave that press conference dressed as darth Vader, he would never be able to get anyone to take him seriously again. And he actually had a good record coaching including his miss st days. Billy has nothing else to offer that would make people overlook his sloppiness
