It doesn't matter if Goldkunt thinks it's a "gross oversimplification", the fact remains, he had an unreported story (even if it was 9 months old) that he chose NOT to report because HE DECIDED that the unreported incident was "not related" to the more recent and mysterious incident(s) for which Huggins is AWOL.

There is NO DIFFERENCE between this and what happened at F$U with Rapeis Winston, when an incident was reported to the authorities, and then nobody did anything about it FOR A YEAR.

Put it another way...Goldkunt got the 9 month old incident BY REQUESTING DOCUMENTS AS A JOURNALIST. He could have received the same information 9 months ago, IF HE HAD REQUESTED IT. He is clearly trying to figure out why Huggins is AWOL. Why would he NOT report the prior incidents, as they may be a part of a larger pattern of behavior?

****, "homesick" Chris Steele LEFT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA after a few months because Mullet refused to listen to him regarding Jalon Jones.

Oh, but Goldkunt just KNOOOOOWS that Huggins' incidents from 2018 have NO CONNECTION to his absence in 2019.

Bull and ****E.

To all the parents of recruits, including @Elijah's Biggest Fan , this is what we have been talking about when parents give any kind of consideration to entrusting their children to Dan Mullet. Obviously, nobody wants anyone's child to either victimize others, or be victimized by others. But Dan Mullet just makes excuses and sweeps all of the bad incidents under the carpet.

When you have a guy like Dan Mullet, with his track record at UF (both as an assistant and a head coach), you have to be concerned about what is going to happen when you allow your child to be coached and mentored by this irresponsible man.

It is pathetic to consider that parents who have spent 18 years trying to raise their children properly would even consider letting Dan Mullet be a part of their children's lives for 4 or 5 very crucial developmental years.

I have no problem with giving kids a second chance, but that has to happen with some actual disciplinary repercussions, and respect for the victims.

And let's not even get into the "culture of cover-up" that takes place at every level in Gainesville, from the police department to the athletic department to the fan websites to the fans themselves.

So, someone needs to tweet Goldkunt and ask him if "attempted murder" is a "gross, gross oversimplification" and we are just "doing our outrage thing", then why in the **** did Huggins choke his tutor? Was he trying to retrieve his cell phone FROM HER NECK?

It's one thing for Goldkunt to misspeak, but when he is so arrogant and cavalier in dismissing another viewpoint, it just proves he DOESN'T GET IT.

"Complainant opted not to pursue charges"?

SHE WAS EMPLOYED BY UF AS A TUTOR OF ATHLETES. It is VERY COMMON for people to "opt not to pursue charges" WHEN IT INVOLVES THEIR JOBS.

"She could breathe and talk"? Hmmm, either Huggins is the kindest and gentlest woman-choker of all time, or SHE IS JUST MINIMIZING WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. How many of us have ever been in a dispute where (a) the other person was so angry that he/she tried to choke you, but (b) the choking was so light and friendly that you could breathe and carry on a full conversation with your assailant?

This "investigation" is the equivalent of when the F$U Athletic Director kindly and gently asked Adrian McPherson whether he stole the checkbook from the booster, and when Adrian denied it, the investigation was closed due to lack of evidence.

OF COURSE a person who is employed by UF, and doesn't want to lose her job, might POSSIBLY not tell you how serious, violent, and frightening the incident actually was. OF COURSE she might choose not to press charges. OF COURSE she might say that she could "breathe and talk".

But, nooooo, Thomas Goldkunt wants to act as if NOTHING HAPPENED. You know, because charges were not pressed. Because people NEVER "opt not to pursue charges" out of fear.

This guy can claim to be a "reporter", but he is nothing of the sort. He has no journalistic ethics and he asks ZERO relevant questions.

Goldkunt HAD THE INFORMATION, yet it was another reporter who had to ask Mullet about the strangulation incident.

So, Goldkunt and his buddies at Swampa$$ 247 decided to sweep the Huggins strangulation under the rug, until another sportswriter asked Mullet about the strangulation:

Couple things on this.

First, I requested the incident reports on John Huggins on July 13. Frankly, this wasn't exactly what I was expecting to get back based on the reason I submitted a request in the first place. But UFPD didn't respond with records until yesterday.

Second, in terms of the story actually being posted, we had a lot of internal discussion between myself, Luke and my boss higher up at 247 about what to do with the information. All three of us decided not to run anything last night, as the incidents were well in the past and were not connected to his current absence based on what we had gathered from both sources and from UF. Thus, it would have been a bit disingenuous to dig up old incidents which did not result in charges simply to somehow link them to Huggins' current absence.

The only line of thinking any of us had that might have lent credence to possibly running something last night was that Florida is developing a pattern of having incidents related to women (this would be the fifth since Mullen took over: Watkins, Huggins, Jones, Edwards, Yelverton). In that context, I could see a scenario where it might be appropriate to publish this incident involving Huggins. Even so, we decided at the time that it did not merit immediate publication.

However, when Mullen was openly asked in a press conference on video about Huggins allegedly strangling a tutor, the decision was made that rather than have the public searching for facts about what happened we'd outline everything we were in a position to report. In that vein, we made sure to indicate very early in the story that the question was posed to Mullen, that he said it was not related to the incidents from the fall and that no charges were pressed against Huggins. All that is front and center at the very top of the story.

Hopefully that explains our process a little more.

Many people can rip on reporters. The reality is that when you have dipsh!tes with no journalistic background or ethics who become "writers" by purchasing a website, this is the kind of stuff that can happen.

Because they got information LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER IT HAPPENED, but somehow it is "not related" to his current absence, they can justify NOT REPORTING IT.

Fantastic.

This goes to show you these "writers " that are fans of the team they cover will cover and hide anything at all cost. Where is that Yahoo dip**** writer when you need him now. Funny how he stays away from anything SEC
