Game Plan: Louisville Cardinals

Get into this when I get back to a comp in a few minutes, but on offense:

1. We need to run the ball tomorrow 30+ times
2. That needs to happen predominantly on 2nd and 3rd down
3. Which means we need to throw the ball more than 50% on 1st down
4. Which means we need to play a lot of 3 and 4WR
5. The reason is that our best bet is to spread out their new defense
6. And, hit a bunch of underneath routes - crosses, flares, flats, shallow combo patterns
7. When we do run on 1st down and hopefully get into a 5 or less down and distance on 2nd down (e.g 2nd and 4)
8. I want to see us use Dorsett vertically. Louisville didn't see his speed in December.
9. He doesn't have to catch home runs. He can set up guys by clearing Safeties/defenders
10. More than anything, I want to see us adjust after Louisville has countered.

Georgia showed the advantage 3 good runners will have late in a game. If we can match that and take the pressure off of Kaaya. We take this game.

That is a very sound plan. I'd really like to see 10. I want this staff to show us something after halftime as well.

^^^^ this

i think the texas a&m game should be very instructive for our coaching staff. when you have a young quarterback you can't just go run-run-pass. texas a&m was extremely aggressive with the pass on early downs and i think it caught south carolina's defense off balance. even if it's just screens and little short passes, you can become the aggressor even with a new quarterback if you decide to dictate which downs are passing downs and which downs are running downs.

Texas A&M's offensive line is one of the best in the country and Kenny Hill is not a True Freshman.

I think we must run right at this 3-4 Defense. People here may not like it but it may be our only hope. I have more confience in Duke and Yearby early in the game than our OL protecting a true Frosh.

from what i have seen at louisville and the sec...

beat bobby petrino defensively on the line of scrimmage stopping the run, hit the qb on every pass and play extremely physical with his receivers on the line of scrimmage...

teams that did that in the sec usually beat him...

kenny hill wasn't taking five step drops early in the game until third down.

their first and second down passes especially early in the game were mostly quick hit stuff that didn't really require great pass blocking or even much reading of the defense. they were basically doing run plays as passes (screens etc) as a way to keep the defense off balance and get the QB in the rhythm of the game. i don't see why miami couldn't do that too.

we have much more running back talent than A&M but i think just assuming we can pound it on first and second down is setting kayaa up for failure when he does have to pass.

Kill everybody.

I would be surprised if we see a big shift in concept from how we saw our Dline play last year.

It's really simple.

Offensively, beat under man coverages...5 under 2 deep and 1 deep.

Defensively, win under man coverage battles.

They are going to bring it against Kayaa.

Screens should be in full effect.

Defense, just don't suck.

Use the running backs out of the backfield and give Kaaya some easy throws early to get his confidence up and get him in a groove. We also should be doing some PA pass with a couple shots deep with Dorsett because he should be 1v1 and we know that DB will lose that battle speed wise with him.

Defense we need to be getting pressure with AQM, McCord, Kumalu, Chickillo, Pieere, Hertalou and our DB's need to make some plays and get some turnovers.
