Would like input from the football gurus on their thoughts for tomorrow night. You know who you all are.

Discuss.

Run run and run some more. Keep the tempo up but let Kayaa settle in and win the time of possession. By winning the time of possession it should keep the defense fresh meaning lots of explosive plays on that side of the ball. Canes also need to pressure Gardner right from the beginning, get him rattled early and ride the momentum!

As John Madden would say the key to winning is scoring more points than the other team.

Offense:
1. Run first, play action second, quick 3 step drop "catch and throw" game third, Dropback game last.
2. Duke with 24 carries, Joe with 5-6, Gus with 3-4. Goal is to get close to 40 min time of possession and to stay in 3rd and manageable situations.
3. We expect to get a lot of Cover 0, Cover 1 and Cover 3. We will counter the eight man box coverages with the quick game combos like slant-flat, Y stick-HB flat, y corner, quick out & hitch (vs CB off) and slant/wheel (CB up), screens. Focus on the quick game to protect right side of side of OL from Maudlin etc. We will counter the eight man box looks in run game by two TE to a side to gain the numerical advantage at the point of attack.
4. Screen the heck out of them. Advantages are it gets playmakers like Duke and a Coley in space and it slows down the pass rush and discourages the blitz. If Kaaya throws 25 passes in the game, 6-7 should be screens.
5. Dropback game we focus on core 5-6 combos Kaaya has executed best in camp and is most comfortable with. We don't need 50 different passes in game plan. Focus on the things he likes the best and dress it up with different formations. Our big plays will come via play action rather than drop backs. Focus on shallow crosses and short to intermediate high percentage throws. We go for the big play in Dropback only where there are no safeties deep (Cov 0).

In all seriousness though, we need to run, not turn the football over and hit some big plays in the passing game. If we can get S. Coley involved early I feel it will get Louisville from stacking the box.

On defense, tackle, tackle, and tackle some more. We need to let the CB's jam at the LOS and not play 15 yds off the LOS and diguise blitzes. If I start yelling out where we are blitzing from we are in deep ****.

We also need to counter punch with Petrino. We can't be stubborn, when he changes things up we have to be willing to adjust.

I agree with run and run some more behind the big OL, Duke, Gus, and Yearby. Eventually Kaaya is going to have throw downfield to loosen the D, or they will just play 8 in the box until proven otherwise. That is what I expect from the Cards.

For the Canes on D, can we control the LOS? I don't know. If we do, it presents favorable coverages for us. If we can't, then that's where I get nervous.

I love how Shanahan scripts his first 15/20 plays. He is looking for mismatches and weakness in a D. I would love to see Coley be aggressive and attack their new defense. Same on D. You have a young QB that doesn't have a lot of experience. Don't let him get comfortable. Petrino uses timing patterns. Don't let the receivers get off the line untouched. Basically be aggressive on both sides of the ball and we should win this game.

I agree. Really hope we play aggressively, particularly on defense.

How do you script plays in advance to look for mismatches when they have a brand new Head Coach and a new Def Coach?

Time of possession is crucial. We have to win that battle. Its imperative that we extend drives and stay in 3rd and manageable situations. On defense...**** I dunno. Just hit some body often.

You dictate what you are going to run, not them dictate what we will run. The play book should look vastly different then it did last year with Morris.

On Defense:
1. Stop the run.
2. Generate a pass rush and pressure Gardener into sacks or errant throws.
3. Get off the field on 3rd down.

On Offense:
1. Establish the running game and use it to set up play-action passes.
2. Use the middle of the field to create chunk plays.
3. Mix and match to keep the defense off guard.

Don’t whiff tackles, High point the ball, for the love of God please play in their face instead of 15 yards off the ball? Blitz without using all them slow *** delayed blitzes. Find away to put your best players on the field, AQM, CHAD AND Mccord

I guarantee you that we will have plays scripted. We always do. You act as if Bobby Petrino and Todd Grantham have never coached before. The players even said that they are watching Western Kentucky and Georgia film, so I'm not sure what the point of your post is.

Coaching is about counter punching. You need to have a counter to there counter and so on. Script your first 10 or however many plays and see how the D responds then later on in the game you can set something up.

Throw short, quick passes early in the game to get Kaaya in rhythm and to build his confidence. Louisville will undoubtedly be bringing the house early to try to rattle our freshman QB. Have to use the screen game early and often to make them pay when they do. I would like to use a quicker tempo to try to give UL as little time as possible to set up their pressure and coverages.

On defense I would like to see us disguise our blitzes and coverages better. Would love to see us bring heavy pressure at the start to try and rattle Gardner's confidence a little and possibly force a momentum building turnover or 2. Can't give UL's WRs the kind of cushions we were giving them in the RAB. DB's and LB's have to aggressively alter receivers routes. Can't let UL's speedy receivers get free releases or run unimpeded crossing routes across the middle of the field. Would not be surprised to see more of a 3-3-5 look with Bush, JC and Dallas on the field at the same time to try to better defend UL's speed
