I know its not ALL about the talent, but if hiring Caputo as HC would keep Timberlake in tow, that would be a huge plus. It might have been Caputo that made the close with him, for all we know (or don't know.)

It was Caputo. But Timberlake will likely be outta here (if he's as good as we think) before a coaching change will have any effect on him.

I don't see how a horrible season can't affect whether he eventually signs on the dotted line. My guess is 50-50.

I could be mistaken, but I think there is a specific signing period.

Last I read he was unsigned which appears to mean he can go elsewhere without a waiver or transfer etc.

Reason for this (flexible "verbal commit?") was some concern coaching staff might change here.

I read somewhere there is a formal "late signing period" I think in the spring, which he is targeting.

Hiring in-house to hold on to a single 4* recruit is dumb.

Clemson hired Dabo Swiney as their head football coach to keep CJ Spiller at school for his senior year. It has worked out well for them.
