This is a similar argument to when the “stars don’t matter” guys bring up underrated recruits who became star players. Of course there’s going to be 3 star guys who become stars. A majority of FBS players were rated 3 stars in high school. Of course some of them are going to excel. There were almost 150 3 star rated QBs (per 247) in 2020. There’s only 130 FBS teams. Even if 15 of them turn out to be star players, that’s only a 10% success rate. If you see a guy who may be under the radar but he has some great skill set that fits what you do, take a flier. But you’d have to cast a really huge net if you’re just trying to play the odds that a lower rated recruit pans out.

I was told there would be no math.
 
You take as many verbals as possible and sort it our at the end. Manny has a responsibility to field the best team so tough talks hopefully lie ahead with some lower rated players

You just have to be up front with them. You will burn a lot of bridges accepting commitments from players but then not offering a LOI on signing day. If there's lower rated guys on your board, you have to be honest with them about their position and where they stand on the totem pole. If it hurts a guy's feelings that you aren't prioritizing him, oh well.

Also, the staff isn't allowed to talk about specific recruits so when a player tweets out "Just got an offer from (whatever school)" it doesn't necessarily mean he has a commit-able offer or really any offer at all. The staff can't confirm or deny what a player says publicly. It's very possible that there's lower rated guys out there that have Miami "offers" but don't really have a scholarship offer.
