You’re right that there wasn’t much else in 2016 but there were a handful of second and third year linebackers (none of which were good) that Manny could have played If he was that hellbent on playing older players. Also, TAC gets a lot of love here but I still don’t know why. He was a mid tier 3 star recruit who really hasn’t done anything on the field to justify hype. He was a better prospect than Flagg but not by a ton and that’s not saying much. Honestly, I thought Huff would be a player. He was pretty much a DE at McArthur but his senior year he was a really good off ball linebacker at STA. I have no idea what the **** happened to him.
What people see with TAC is length, speed, and explosiveness. The problem is his reps were limited and usually within garbage time so its tough to gauge what he can really do. But I'm confident in saying his ceiling is considerably higher than Flagg. As for Huff, I agree, no clue what happened to that guy.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good CIS conspiracy.
I think a lot of people expect freshmen to start right away. They don’t realize that the light might not have gone on until mid season or later. James Williams in week 6 might have been a **** of a lot better player than James Williams in week 1

True. Whenever a guy doesn't perform up to par there's screaming for some FR to replace him because he's "more talented". Sometimes he is, sometimes not, but people forget that you have to know what you're doing out there. You have to be able to process at college speed. What's the point of a LB with natural ability who can't diagnose the play in time? But no, everyone will just go on about coaches playing favorites. But sometimes the clown out there is actually the better option no matter how good his backup's HS tape looks.

I actually think the problem was worse. I don’t think it was seniority but the fact everyone seemed to regress here. Start strong then go backwards. I am trying to think of one player that consistently got better.

He ran a 11. Sec 100 meters in high-school and is clearly faster to the ball when ever he got in the game. He plays with great intensity. I highly doubt Flagg is a better linebacker than TAC. Time will tell now that we have a real lb coach.

Word. Once you're a grown *** man, as I assume most of us are, a few years difference in age is not that stark when talking about physical development. But when you're dealing with young men just out of H.S., a year or two of S&C and natural maturation can make a huge difference, which is why productive freshmen are the exception, not the rule. Not to mention the additional time getting coached up (hopefully), learning the position, and acclimating to the speed and aggression of D1 ball.
